Haha I don't think I'd ever be able to beat anyone in first.

Heck, I'm not even top of my friends on most events because I've got two pros (ish) on my friends list that added me after I best them in a multiplayer event one time.

Your level is low,  you've not played the game a lot.  Stop expecting to be good at it right away.  It takes time to get good.

Just so I understand what you're talking about, do you mean when you're going off road during a corner, get a corner penalty message and your car just inexplicably decides to slow down for a couple seconds? Cause that's happened to me and it's pretty annoying.

That is exactly what I'm complaining about and I find it to be a pretty dang poor game design choice.  "You're not driving the way we want you to, so you're getting a penalty".

You said it wasn't offroad.  
Honestly think Driveclub is more forgiving of that than most games.

Yeah but I wasn't really slow down until I was already back on the road when the corner penalty hit and I was suddenly slowed down to like 50km/h or something.
