i see the first title got an 81.   not seeing any reason this would be particularly different.   there will be a few big low scores from those that fault the game for not being much of a game.  being pretty is not enough to get good scores from all outlets.

The first one grew a pretty big following after it released, so now journalists "know it's good."

I've never played the first or watched gameplay of it but didn't it have proper combat and stuff? If they focus on that for the sequel then it could have good mass market appeal, otherwise you're right that gameplay could hold it back.

i haven't played it either but from what i read not really.   there isn't much combat and the combat it did have wasn't great.   it's pretty much what all the user reviews say on the metacritic page too.   you can watch it here though:

most of the critisms of hellblade 2 have been,... "why have we seen this game showcased like 6 times and we still don't have any combat/gameplay shown yet??"    so yeah, not really expecting them to have "focused on that" as you say.   maybe they are just holding back but i think on the era thread they said the game is supposed to be really short like the first game too.

honestly, i could see this getting grilled for no better reason than people venting their MS frustrations at something.

yeah the combat was ok-ish for the first.  It wasn't terrible, but it was very basic.

I should lower my predictions...

a launch embargo doesn't sound good.  That never bodes well for any game reviews

Woder how well it's play metrics will be even if it's high 80s. I have gamepass and I like shorter games, but I'll prob skip it.

Weird launch trailer.

I think that could be one of the worst launch trailers I've ever seen. WTF

Dr. Pezus

It was ok.  Not really going for the mass market clearly

sounds like it has improved nothing from the first game except the graphics. Lame puzzles and lame combat.
