I haven't been following very closely. Not sure if different release periods are making a big difference.

All I know for sure is that people were pretty sure that it would not hit the top 5, when it was coming out.

the original was pretty throttled by a limited number of theatres technically capable of showing it.

and movie tickets are like 2x the price as they were back then.

gratz I guess but this is no where near the social impact as the original and I highly doubt this will have the legs of the original which was still in theatres a year after release.

Last 2 days of box office have been adjusted up like 8 million each day than what estimates were. This week will be bigger than a normal week as well as New Year's Eve and new years as people are off and kids are still on winter break till next week

Guarantee between way of water and avatar 3 they are gonna be getting near 4 billion easily. Unless 3 is just garbage. 4 and 5 are where avatar fatigue could come in.   I personally think there should be a bigger gap between 3 and 4

Yay! It released on the same weekend as Avatar 1 so it's pretty much identical.

But the first didn't have any cultural impact  :P

I think it really depends on the story of 3, 4, and 5. 2 is very similar to 1 and if all of them are like that, the fatigue will be massive.

I figured it was time to finally update my avatar  8)

1.1 billion today. Adding around 70million a day right now. And with it being a weekend again with people off or taking off it's likely to hit near 1.4 billion by January 2nd or 3rd I bet. Which is pretty good. Only movies in the past 5 years to rake in money this fast has been no way home, endgame and infinity war

Feels like 2 billion might be a given. If not at least 1.9 billion. Should be plenty to green light 4 and 5

I don't want to celebrate too early since things could drop really quickly in January, but it's amazing how well it's doing. Was so funny just over a week ago when $1.4 billion felt optimistic.

Wonder how the Ubisoft game will do. It feels very "dated" now that I've seen Avatar 2. Without characters or locations from the new film, will people be as interested?

I think locations from the second can be added as DLC and expansions, which would sell a lot.

I think this success will only help the game. And the game if its good will help the movies. Smart business so far if you ask me

Yeah it's not like the success will hurt the game lol.

Just at least for me, this trailer feels a lot more bland now. Hopefully the game is holding a lot back.

Did they confirm that there will be no water locations from the second movie?

Either way, it might just be better as DLC. My concern from this game is its design and story. Are they just gonna make a farcry and assassins Creed rip off, or will there be a more interesting open world design

I don't remember if I mentioned this.

Watched Frozen with my son, he wanted to watch it for some reason. I felt like it was a much better movie than I remembered. I don't think I liked it at all the first time, but it was totally fine I thought.

On a different note, does Avatar 1 look kind of off in a few scenes?

Most of the scenes I think still look great. But there are a couple of scenes that look kind of gamey, or something.

I liked it a fair amount back then. Nothing amazing, but just a well made movie.

I remember different scenes looking better or worse than others. Like the scene when he's first getting on the direhorse is kinda bad.

Now that graphics are my job, I wonder why that is. I assumed they spent more time/money on different shots or used different teams, but would that really affect the lighting that much?

I think I'll rewatch it in 3D ahead of seeing Avatar 2 again next week.

Wow $24.4 million domestic yesterday. It keeps doing better than expected.

Still such a large domestic range. Maybe it reaches #1 all time, maybe it doesn't crack top 10.  We need one more week of data to know imo.

kitler53

frozen 1 had a fantastic soundtrack but a rushed and kind of bad story that felt like someone wrote then ending first and then tried to figure out how to get there as an afterthought.

frozen 2 was a much better story but the music just wasn't as good.

Yeah and it's definitely gonna do way better than Christmas Eve and Christmas Day domestic too. It's gonna have some decent legs I think. But just to think James Cameron may have 3 of the top 5 or 6 grossing movies of all time. Which is insane

I hope it continues to have great legs. I love the world building. May be more of an average story but dang the world is fantastic
