Quote from: BananaKing on Nov 03, 2022, 05:10 PMYeah I was super bummed when it was cancelled. It hurt a lot more since it was a sci-fi space game.

But I trust cory, he managed to pick up the pieces of SMS and deliver GoW.

I can see it now in a few weeks. Edge review scores 7/10

Quote from: VGC ReviewerI'm not saying that there's no way on earth someone could achieve one of the scores in this thread, but there's either been a translation issue or someone admitting they barely played the game.

He almost sounds mad about it.

Hard to judge until the game is out. I've definitely noticed "artificial" reviews from time to time that absolutely should not belong in aggregate scores, but equally likely it could just be a person that values things differently. Far too often a mega hyped AAA gets a "less positive" review that fans jump on pre-launch, e.g. the infamous 8/10 for Uncharted 3.

Really positive reviews, I need to finish the first one before I get this.

so skimmed the reviews.   seems like my biggest worry is kind of there.   the game is amazing because GoW 2018 was also amazing.  ...but this sequel doesn't do much to go above and beyond the "formula" put forth in it's prequel.   it's good to see that for the most part people are saying the story is still good.

i think i'll still preorder this though.

The first remixed the god of war formula so much that I couldn't imagine something like that again. Such a high bar it's no surprise it's just as epic and more of the same

Bigger and more boss fights with more enemy variations is all I wanted. Plus an epic story

i didn't read enough to confirm or deny but i wanted a GoW 3 moment.  like,.. it was mostly "more of the same" but there was some individual moments specifically in the boss fights where it was just like,..  "wow".

i don't just want more boss fights i want special boss fights.   i think that was my biggest complaint about GoW 2018 was not only was there not soo many boss fights most of them just didn't feel that special.  they felt very much like bosses i've fought before in other adventure games.  that was a thing i hoped this particular game would do was get back to that "set piece boss" that made GoW 3 so special.

I got the impression from what people were saying, that this game fixes that issue.

More variety with enemies, better bosses.

Oh no doubt.  Those GoW 3 fights were awesome.  Those are still some of the best boss fights in any games.

Let's hope theres even just 1 amazing fight like that.

yeah in one of the interviews i watch of Ragnarok, one of the leads said that was the complaint from GoW that they took to heart the most and wanted to fix it.

Dr. Pezus

In the IGN review they talked about great bosses and also the fights feeling a bit like in Doom, very fast paced and arena like

Id be upset if they jumped away from the forums of 2018 a lot. It was fantastic, and I just want a few upgrades and tweaks to make it even better.

A complete overhaul doesn't make sense. Nor should it be expected

kitler53

to those talking to me above,...

....like i said, i didn't read any reviews closely.   i only skimmed summary sections so to best avoid even minor spoilers.  if the bosses are indeed upgraded that didn't seem to make any summary sections when things like "more of the same" did.   glad to hear i'm wrong.  ..i'll judge for myself soon.  xD

QuoteWithin God Of War: Ragnarök's accessibility settings is an option to give miniboss fights a midway checkpoint.

i won't be using it.  but also,.. i kind of feel like this is a cop-out of an accessibility feature.   basically this is just a "cut life bar in half" cheat.  seems to me if you can't beat a boss than excepting to beat half a boss isn't a guarantee either.  in flattening the difficulty curve i would think you could do something more subtle like every time you die debuff the boss 10%.  yes you have to replay the boss in it's entirety again" but you'd also leave the boss with a feeling of "i won" with the debuffing of the boss not being soo obvious that you cheated.

...there's probably better ideas than this too.

all in all though,.. i do like the focus on accessibility going into games these days.   i definitely quit hollow knight when i couldn't get past a boss and i was tired of playing the game after the 30th failed attempt where i couldn't even get to the mid point of the boss.
