How worried is Sony about Gamepass?

This isn't so much that Sony would be concerned about MS eating their lunch.

In the short term, MS has a service that offers quite a bit of access to a lot of games on two different platforms. Microsoft's games are available on Xbox and PC. With streaming to other devices becoming a bigger thing.

Flexibility can be a strong marketing standpoint. Would Netflix have taken off as much if you were required to get a Netflix box?

And in the long term, MS is buying up exclusive access to some of the biggest IPs in gaming to build up their service.

I think its ms that should be more concerned about gamepass.

Streaming tv services took a hit hit recently now that its become very apparent that their grown rate has stalled at ~1/4 of their projected target.  Its quickly becoming apparent that netflix is struggling to pay for the content needed to maintain their subcribers.

Gamepass will have the same problem.  In this most recent NPD they said "subscription revenues are up but not enough to offset the reduction in premium sales" or something to that effect.   And just look at the top 10 list on xbox.  I think it was 2x ftp titles and 4x CoD titles including some pretty old titles.  So more recent titles must be doing absolute dogshit on xbox. Even eldin ring was near the bottom.

MS once said they thing they can achieve 1 billion subscribers.  Lol.  They will struggle to hit 50 million and i doubt they can reach 100 million.  This is just not sustainable.

That's equally troubling for Sony though. Microsoft is driving this subscription race but they'll both go off the cliff together.

Right. Even if Gamepass doesn't end up being successful in a profitable way, it can still put pressure on Sony to drive off a cliff.

I think there are lots of things for them to be considerate of, long term.  How it affects consumer expectations, whether they could build a similar service is they needed to, etc.

definitely maybe.

Ms is worse off because they are training their fans to never buy software again.

Sony may lose our too but it won't be as bad.  they may lose customers but the ones that stay will buy software.

probably part of why Sony is going the GaaS route

that's part of what I hate about gamepass.  it's not even game but many games you are basically paying a sub to get a title designed to be ft2.
