How do you feel about Sony and MS's strategies?

Notable points of discussion:

- acquisitions: both MS and Sony have been making more studio acquisitions than they ever have

- PS+, Gamepass: Xbox is pushing Gamepass extensively, and Sony is rumored to be making some kind of competitor

- branching out: Sony is pushing a lot of movies and TV shows based on their games.

How do you feel about these things? What do you like? What worries you? What would you want to see more of?

I love the games Sony makes and I love the potential xbox now has. I worry about Microsoft's ability to deliver though.

Halo Infinite was a huge letdown. If after all these years Microsoft can't get 343 to function properly, what hope do they have with all these other studios? I worry that devs will be successful in spite of Microsoft, not because of them.

I enjoy having gamepass. It's great to just launch a game without being committed. I absolutely hate though that it's often just a trial service with games leaving regularly. What's the point of paying for it if you can't play the games when you want to? It just causes me to not care. I can subscribe for just a few months out of the year and get just as much satisfaction. The PS+ games model is infinitely better. As long as you stay subscribed, you "own" the games. I hope the new model keeps that but I know it won't.

Sony feels lost when it comes to the bigger picture. Maybe it was the change in leadership, but they have allowed Xbox to gain significant ground. It feels like Microsoft is dictating how games will be played in the future, not Sony.

I like that Sony is branching out. They are really wanting to make their franchises valuable.

Personal thoughts:

- I'm excited to see Sony expand this gen. They've been running on a more lean approach, so I'm excited to see what an unshackled Sony does.  

Though I'm a bit worried that it's not going to be good. Worried about the GaaS push. I don't hate GaaS, but it's such an easy thing to make predatory, and make suck.


Would like to see Sony expand into more genres (RPG, etc).

It's interesting hearing devs talk about Sony. I think it was Jade Raymond, who said they have a secret sauce.  

Don't know if there's any truth to it, but I think their games speak for their success.
