I hope we get some leaks showing the current state of the game. It must have been in a really bad state for Nintendo to kill it instead of having Retro help clean things up.

One thing I've thought about is that Nintendo is making their games huge and long after botw. Maybe Metroid was feeling too bloated and didn't have the right mix of content to pull this off.

Plus Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Yoshi and I'm sure they have more to announce. Bayo 3 doesn't have a date yet, for example. Its already looking better than last year.

Retro Studios reportedly pitched a demo for Prime 4 themselves, which Nintendo liked, MPT port for Switch has been done for a while (and more) | ResetEra

If this doesn't warrant a thread, feel free to close it mods. However, I think it would inject some positivity into the discussion for those that are worried about the recent news. These tweets come from GameInformer senior editor (Imran on ERA) and share some insight on what went on behind the scenes with this game.

 Also it sounds like the old development process was really bad. Metroid Prime is special because of the way all aspects of it come together so well, it would be impossible to create that effect when you've got different studios in different parts of the world creating it

Seems like Metroid Prime Trilogy port/ remaster has been done for a while and they're waiting for the right time to release it, probably want it close(ish) to MP4.

Whatever they were making was probably trash.  With Metroid Prime 4 not working out, they probably gave it back to them to give them something familiar to work on.

I know some people on here don't like Yongyea, but I agree with him 100%. Nintendo could of just not said anything like some other companies and pretended the game doesn't exist until it was ready to be shown but now we know what's happening with Metroid Prime 4 and know we are going to have to wait a while until we see the game let alone play it.

 It's also true how Nintendo cares about it's fans when it comes to Metroid, I know it's been years since we got the last mainline Metroid game but Nintendo knew if MP4 wasn't what fans wanted than we probably wouldn't get another one so it's better to wait for a delayed game than a bad game like Miyamoto says.

 What do you think?
