Hopefully this E3 surprises us.
Its because they actually used to care about and promote indies. They seem to have completely gotten rid of indie sections in their main conferences. They have side events and stuff like that for indies now instead, but the exposure for them is nowhere near enough.

Couple that with them cutting down on pretty much all talking, and that's a lot of the difference.

Also it seems to me that they're giving third parties less time, pretty much only going with ones they have deals with and even then not giving them much. Like COD used to get 10-15 mins on the MS stage, but Sony gave them 3 minutes last year. And they pretty much don't get any gameplay segments from third parties either, which MS always has a lot of.

All of that is the difference. The less talking is a good change, but the rest of it isn't imo. We don't care about you trimming it down, we're going to watch all of it anyway, just give us lots of gameplay sections and long trailers, and more games!

Also sounds to me like they're going to get worse this e3, with them saying the show is focusing on their 4 big upcoming games. Maybe we'll get even fewer indies and third parties.

I miss the virtual E3 both Sony used to make in Home.  Home needs to comeback as VR.

Funny how we've come full circle now. People uses to complaint hard about all the indie exposure at Sonys conferences  (remember Indiestation?) and third party multiplats were viewed as wasted time as well since they appear on all platforms anyways.

I still think that way, most indie games I played over the last years turned out to be way overhyped anyways. To me 2016 is still Sonys best conference yet and probably the best conference I've seen to date.

Which indie games did you play? The past few years I've been way more interested in them than AAA games.

Also I do remember indiestation  :'(

Off the top of my head Axiom Verge, Celeste, Golf Story, Stardew Valley and Shovel Knight. Out of those Celeste is the only one that comes close to deserving the praise it's gotten.

Eh I don't give a shame about the people complaining about indiestation and all that. Indies deserve some time in the spotlight, it's too hard for them to get an audience a lot of the time and that can help a lot.

2016 was great, it was still shorter though. But it had some great new announcements and gameplay showings. I think if tthey filled out the other 20 minutes with more games like third parties and/ or an indie section it'd beat 2015 for me.

One thing I really didn't like was their "one last thing" being gameplay for days gone. I got excited for another game to be announced/ shown and it was just that. Left a big sense of disappointment immediately after the conference for me.

Sony conference prediction.

TLOU2 gameplay - it'll be awesome but not too big a change from the first game
Death Stranding gameplay - who has any clue what this will be like ;D
Ghost of Tsushima gameplay - gimme some samurai!
Spiderman trailer - they showed gameplay last year so I'm thinking it'll be a story trailer this year.
COD gameplay - it'll probably be multiplayer but maybe they'll show zombies too, or perhaps even reveal the BR mode fully
Destiny expansion trailer - this is obligatory, right?
Red dead trailer/ gameplay reveal - I really hope its gameplay but I don't think they will show any. If Red Dead is at e3 they'll be at Sony's show
Exclusive announcement - perhaps a game Japan Studio has been working on, or another surprise
Third party announcements - maybe one or two. DMC5 might be here, plus something else.
VR section - it'll show some VR games we already know about that are coming to PS VR, maybe 2 or 3 new smaller games announced here.

Length - 75 mins. I'm hoping they don't cut it short to an hour like last year but I can't see them going straight back to 90.

^oh just so everyone knows, Naughty Dog is using quixel megascans now.  They are listed on their site.  So I'm assuming they are using it for TLOU 2.  So get ready for some super duper realism in the game.

Yes. I know what this is.

I'm guessing that's how they made trailer 2 look so good.

Yeah they must be moving away from their stylized realism look they went for in the uncharted games and TLOU.  Plus it's a lot faster for development as well, because they won't have to go through and hand paint all their textures like before.

There was a facebook post with the Sony e3 teaser video and so many of the comments are just so dumb. Loads of people saying "we already know about all of those games, I'm not going to watch if they're not announcing anything" ... oh yeah sure they're going to put their surprise announcements in this teaser trailer to show you what you're going to be surprised by if you watch the show...

Why are so many people so dumb :'(
