PS4 did 3.95m

They all had one holiday period, but Switch has the advantage of a separate launch period so supply will have been easier for Nintendo. Its kind of pointless comparing on a month by month basis this early in their life due to the mis-match of launch periods anyway. PS4 and Wii will overtake it launch aligned in a few months again.

It'll be interesting to see if Switch takes the lead again in 12 months time though.

Both PS4 and Wii had little stock for the holiday... when you launch in the holiday that is what happens.
When you have the holiday in the end like Wii U then you have stock issues in the start but you can build a big stock for holidays ending with better overall sales.

Just estimate how a PS4 or Wii could sell if they release in March and have big stock in the holiday.

PS4 for example sold only 1.8m in November + December 2013.

Don't think it's arbritrary at all, I'm pretty sure Nintendo know very well that there's a timer on this statement. They've seen non-supply-constrained and non-holiday months for the Switch and know very well that they don't have another Wii on their hands, or they should know this at least.

Give it a couple months and this whole thing should be null and void. So now at the beginning of the year is pretty much the ideal point for this PR piece.
