There are around 200k people who have beaten the first boss in XCX. Since the game supports exploration and it takes around 5 hours till the first boss I estimate 230k people in NA have the game bringing it's total to at least 420k (without Germany, a few weeks in UK and FR, no row, and no digital outside of Japan)
What's also interesting going by reddit, chartz, and gaf, quite a few people got the game for Christmas. So my 200k first month might happen  :)

About 8.9 million

I guess lots who got it for christmas will have just played the story and not tried multiplayer yet. These are also just the core leaderboards and some people play hardcore only

I think its fairly safe to say that over 9 million people have it on PS4

Makes you realise how small steam actually is. PS4/XB1 sales will be much higher than this.

Surprised to see TW3 so low too.

CS GO is a beast.

seriously? Counter Strik sold 5.6 million units just THIS YEAR? really?.... wow. i dont understand PC gamers sometimes.

The Witcher 3 got around half of its sales first week on GOG. i wouldnt be surprised if that ratio held or was even higher by now. first two week sales for PC were 1.2 million.

TW2 and TW1 sales are massive as well, talk about epic legs.

nice to see Rocket League sell 2 million. that PS+ move was genius, made the game gain a lot of popularity. Ark Survival selling 2 million is great news as well. hopefully the sales and money generated helps the studio make the final release even better.

Rorono

That's how cheap steam games go..
I actually did get cs go about, I dunno maybe 2-3 years ago, on a sale for like 4 Euros "just because". And back then when trading was rampant, traders inventories had dozens and dozens of copies of the game sitting in their inventories
An the good old days of steam trading, before Valve screwed everyone.

Yeah its crazy, it seems like CS GO is the go to PC game for loads of people and its popularity increases all the time despite how much people complain about it.

I just realised that Undertale isn't on that list, that's really shocking

no they dont. but you dont need that. im pretty sure it charts on leaderboards even if you dont have it.

im not really sure why its so popular, it really doesnt look good.

Kerotan

Counter strike is so popular because it's like cod4 taken to even purer extremes.  It's good and all but I don't see how people can play almost nothing but that for years.  Personally I like to play around 40 games a year instead of just one.

QuoteWhy did Sony drop the price of the PS4 this holiday season while the PS4 was ahead by 10M Units?

Microsoft reducing the price of Xbox One to $350 makes sense as they are behind.

At this point, the so-called console wars are looking like the price wars.

If Sony were confident in the PS4 to maintain the lead over the Xbox One they would not drop the price of the PS4 to $350 until holiday 2016.

I think you can even get a PS4 or an Xbox One for $300.

At this rate by holiday 2016, both the PS4 and Xbox One will be $250 all because of Sony's lack of confidence in the PS4 to maintain it's lead over the Xbox One.

PlayStation is clearly the underdog this generation as Microsoft remains steady and confident in the Xbox One.

The same thing every Xbox fanboy smokes. Microsoft's collective sucker. If Sony hadn't dropped the price and lost November, that idiot would be saying things like, "Sony was stupid to sell a two-year old console at that price while Microsoft did the right thing by consumers and dropped it by 150 a year earlier. That's why I support them." Or some stupid shame like that.

PlayStation 4 isn't the underdog for reasons any sane person understands. It's the market leader and the brand name has remained powerful in the industry since it began, even during its dark times. It has more games releasing for it than any other platform outside of PC. Its network experience is on par with Live, despite what Xbox fans will try and tell you. Its UI is user friendly compared to Xbox One. Sony marketed the console to the right crowd in the right way from the beginning. Microsoft started off their marketing with disaster after disaster. Sony is more vocal about upcoming games and projects, even if they try to reveal as little as possible. Microsoft stays too quiet, which doesn't help when you don't have that much to talk about to begin with by comparison. The Dualshock 4 controller is better than the Xbox One controller according to the general consensus. At least the last time I checked. Also, Sony keeps the PlayStation 4 in the public eye through all of the events they attend and put effort into. Four major conferences a year, including one dedicated to the brand.

Furthermore, there is really no indication that anything has changed. Despite all of these articles about Microsoft "turning it around", this holiday season actually proved that Microsoft is still fighting for its life in North America. Which is the only major region it has any presence in. It's actually worse off in the United States now than it was this same time last year. Sony is plenty confident in their console.

Sony has also done a much better job with 3rd party relations. Hideo Kojima partnered up with Sony because the company has the reputation of letting its studios take risks and make new IPs. It also helps that Andrew House and Mark Cerny can speak Japanese. Allowing cross-platform play has also benefited Sony quite a bit. Rocket League, Final Fantasy XIV, and to an extent, Street Fighter V are good examples of this.

Microsoft, on the other hand, has done a good job pissing off developers and publishers more than helping them such as:

- Ditching the JRPG audience after FFXIII
- Enforcing the parity clause on indie developers (and still doing it)
- Forcing high minimum print orders, which pissed off Square Enix (Type-0) and led to the cancellation of the XBO physical version of Shovel Knight
- Pissing Square Enix off again with the Tomb Raider fiasco

What jega doesn't understand is that if Sony played the fire sale game they'd have massive stock shortages WW and would take in like 2 billion less revenue.
Say they cut the price by $100 after 10m sales just to make fanboys happy and everyone could post even more nothingstopsthistrain.gifs by the time they sell 30m which was a while back they'd have taken in literally 2BN less.

That money is needed to keep the companies recovery going,  invest in Playstation products like VR,  now,  VUE etc plus get the best 3Rd party deals which in turn fuels more hardware and software sales.

And it gives them muscle in the last market they still have to work to get the games.  Japan.  Getting dragon quest back definitely wasn't free and if they ever plan on getting similar multiplatform and spin off deals on the likes of monster hunter they'll definitely need to invest.  If they're not taking the money in they've got very limited options.

Edit: and thanks to the Ps3 return to profitability and the great ps4 start Playstation is now one of Sony's crown jewels again.  it can make them so much going forward between hardware,  software and ps plus sales.  Like if they get plus membership up to 20m they will be taking in a billion annually.

Considering the gens are getting longer not shorter that's a pretty stable gold mine that won't be disappearing anytime soon.

Activision Blizzard's 'Call of Duty: Black Ops III' takes a third consecutive No1 for week 52, 2015 having claimed the Christmas No1 last week.

Sales climb by an impressive +40% over last week and for the 8 weeks on chart so far since launch this title has never been out of the Top 2 (50% of the time at No1). This week's chart actually covers the run-up to Christmas and includes Boxing day, which explains why overall sales climb +13% units / +15% revenue over last week. And in fact there is still one more week to go for 2015, as this is a 53 week year. The Top 5 games all show impressive increases over last week, with EA's 'Star Wars Battlefront' still at No2 (+16%), EA's 'FIFA 16' steady at No3 (+20%) and Bethesda a non-mover at No4 with 'Fallout 4' (+13%). Rockstar/Take 2 climb 3 places to No5 with 'Grand Theft Auto V' (+58%) and Square Enix drop 1 place to No6 with 'Just Cause 3' (+0%).
