Hey, if you like linear corridor JRPGs with awful characters then FFX is for you and that's fine. It's just not for me.

(And by god the minigames/sidequests in X were utter trash outside of the monster farm)

I actually liked playing blitzball.

I absolutely hated it. The whole team managing and skill learning idea was cool but actually playing matches was sleep inducing.

But that one wasn't the worst, dodging lightning, the chocobo race and catching the butterflies were all just horrible.

I enjoyed FFX for its story, its music, its combat system, and all the unlockable things there were to find. To me, it's just as awesome any other Final Fantasy titles from the 5th and 6th generations. FFX-2, on the other hand, made me cringe.

Nothing wrong with linear. The characters were great.

I don't really call those minigames. Besides they are all avoidable.

Man, I didn't care for the characters at all, most of them at least. Rikku and Auron were pretty ccol.

Also I'm someone that prefers doing completionist runs of FF games, so even though I eventually gave up on 100%-ing FFX I still did all of these minigames or challenges or whatever you want to call them.

Don't even get me started on X-2. I think their idea for the battle system was cool but what they did with the story was just super out of place, also I hated the fact that the game basically makes X's ending meaningless. Or that's what I think it does since I've only heard about FFX-2's ending and have never actually seen it, since I basically quit halfway through the game because I just didn't enjoy it.

I liked all the characters, loved Auron.
Well completing the game would certainly suck, but the game itself doesn't suck. There's 100's of hours of gameplay, complaining that a few completely optional parts of the game make it overrated seems silly.

I thought X-2 was okay, not great. But I don't see how it's ending makes X's ending meaningless. (I didn't finish it either.)

Spoiler for Hidden:
X's meaning was not attained through Tidus's death. Frankly Tidus's death goes against the theme of FFX; even though it completely fits the story.
It fit's the story, because that is what has to happen to him; because that fits the universe. But their whole battle is about breaking the cycle of death. They are sick of people dying for their fight against sin and they resolve to win without Yuna dying.

I didn't say the optional parts make the game overrated, even though they contribute to it, the characters and overly linear design make it overrated.

Also it has to be noted that completely optional parts have important items for the most powerful weapons locked behind them, which depending on which characters you used were as far as I remember necessarily essential for a lot of the late game side content.

Why not 8? Why not Parasite Eve? Why not Xenogears? You can ask that question all day. I'm just happy they're doing this at all. Especially for the one Final Fantasy game from the 5th and 6th generations I never put much time into. Not by choice.
