A fly by in 2020.

Trump's Advisers Want to Send Humans to the Moon in Three Years - The Atlantic

This is 100% doable. SLS is on target for a Nov 2018 mission around the moon, but without humans in Orion. An August 2021 manned lunar flyby is already planned.

Falcon Heavy will be first launching in the next few months, and Dragon 2 could even land on the moon (one way).

I think one thing that will be good about Trump is his "supposed" want of expanding space exploration.  Hopefully he keeps to it.

would be interesting,  and is certainly doable with the money.  Heck even without SLS they could assemble something in orbit on falcon heavy's.  it would even be keeping with a principle to move towards private business.

dragon 2 could only do 1 way.. but its also built for re-entry, and has the 8 draco's for launch abort..  cut back on those, cut back on structural weight + heat sheild.  and you wouldnt need the chutes.

all the tech is there to do it,  the money just needs to be alocated

would be 1 redeeming factor about trump lol

NASA is thinking about putting astronauts on the first flight of its future giant rocket - The Verge

First SLS launch could be delayed to 2019 and be switched to manned. Would fly by the moon and come back.

woah if true that would be sweet..

i wonder if nasa will get to a point where they are forced to move funds from climate research to space exploration because of the trump  admin

Well I think the funding is already separated. Congress would decrease climate change funds while increasing exploration funds.

Hopefully the rocket doesn't explode. LES should keep the people alive but that'd be a huge setback with the two launches combined.

ya any kind of failure  would be a huge blow. but if it goes well it could put us on  the moons surface much sooner.

putting a man ontop of a rockets first flight is a bit risky tho..

First space shuttle launch was manned and the only abort system it had was ejection seats. SLS will be super safe in comparison.
