A CHRISTMAS CALL

19/Dec/2016
After its timely return to No1 last week 'Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare' holds the crown for the Christmas Chart.

In doing so it becomes the 7th Call of Duty title to hold top spot at Christmas, comfortably holding off 'FIFA 17', which remains at No2. 'Battlefield 1' also remains in third spot while 'Watch Dogs 2' climbs two spots to No4. 'Grand Theft Auto V' breaks back into the Top 10 climbing to No5 marking a landmark in sales as it does so. Of the 170 weeks since it was first released, it has remained in the Top 10 for over 130.
'Final Fantasy XV' moves down two places to No6 ahead of another RPG 'The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Ed.' up two places to No7. Retailer promotions help power a second Bethesda title 'Dishonored 2' nine places up to No8. Several other titles benefit from Pre-Xmas sales this week with Ubisoft's 'Steep' also climbing nine places to No9. 'Mafia III' edges out 'Rocket League' for the last spot in the Top 10. 'Overwatch' is another title making a nine place jump with sales propelling it up to No12. Finally the addition of the Wii U version of 'Minecraft: Story Mode – Complete Adv' helps the title climb five places to No24.

Cool, FFXV gained two places from last week.

Xevross

After a poor start, COD is doing great this year in the UK and should have easily outsold BF1 by now. Its great to see FFXV holding well and that's a nice climb for steep as well ;)

I'm happy with Watch Dogs 2 right now too, after a dreadful start it has recovered well. I really want to see lifetime sales for it now and how they compare to the original

CoD had a big drop in sales but even accounting that it will safely be the best selling shooter this year... maybe only Pokemon combined will do high numbers and that is a maybe.

Well fifa will easily be the top selling game of the year in the UK. I think WW I would bet on pokemon beating COD but we don't really have anything to go on.

A bit interesting that the PS4 FFXV climbed two places while the XBO version dropped 13 places in the individual formats chart. Did the XBO version tank or did other SKUs just sold better?

It is kind of weird. The game is nowhere near as popular on xbox but you would expect them to fall/ climb in line with each other. It could be that xbox owners on a whole aren't interested in the genre, so it's not going to have very good legs at all. Meanwhile PS4 owners are more into Japanese games and RPGs so there is a much bigger audience that might be tempted by word of mouth.

Probably the weirdest part of all is that Microsoft advertised FFXV for the XBO in the UK according to some of the British GAFers, so it wasn't that Microsoft left it out to die.

Yeah the adverts had XBO at the end but I didn't see many of them
