Really interesting video. They did an AMA after the video: Discussion: Veritasium's newest YouTube video on simulating quantum mechanics with oil droplets! : askscience

It seems like this theory produces the same mathematical results as the standard quantum theory but gets rid of all the "spooky action at a distance" things that make quantum mechanics so counter intuitive. It also gets rid of the randomness and is deterministic instead.

From what I've gathered on Google it's well accepted within the scientific community as a possibility.

The thing I love so much about this is that it's intuitive and can be microscopically demonstrated in schools. Even if the theory falls apart and can't replace traditional quantum mechanics, it can still act as an incredibly good analogy of QM to the general public.

The sooner we reach a broader understanding of QM, the sooner we can get rid of these quacks who keep using the misunderstandings of it to sell their spiritual battleship. It's one thing to have beliefs. Quite another to try to hijack a science and intentionally misinterpret it to try to "prove" what you believe.

7 minutes of pilot wave already makes more sense then the 2 years of quantum mechanics i took.

I always felt there were things in other dimensions we couldn't properly observe, which would determine the location of a particle.  Turns out its a multidimensional ripple in space.
