Twitter has also been having difficulty finding a company willing to purchase it and it recently got sued by a shareholder regarding the share prices.

Twitter has a huge user base but hasn't really figured out how to profit off of it.

I don't use Twitter so I have no clue, but don't they use a similar advertising model that Facebook uses?

Somewhat but it's super toned down. All you have are promoted tweets that show up on some pages and that's it. The vast majority of pages are 100% free of twitter pushed ads.
