There will be possible a forecast revision before release.

What if the reveal event decreases hyped? That price better be $300 max and $200 optimal.

I don't see much being able to change in such short time.

It's not like they can change very much of the concept.
At this point, games, price and advertising will be crucial to do well for the system.

I think 200 is the max considering that the 3DS and Vita failed at 250 (I think a 199 Vita might have done a bit better early on).

Yup those were the numbers I was thinking about too, but I figure Nintendo can push the home console elements as a reason for it to slightly cost more than traditional portables.

They can push that narrative with their fans, but I can guarantee a soccer mom looking at the Switch is going to pass when they see 300.  Especially when little Johnny is begging for a 300 dollar PS4.  Soccer mom's were Nintendo's bread and butter....

Again agreed. $200 or $250 is needed for this to be a massive success, but $300 could still net it a good launch off just the fans.

kitler53

you guys really think $200 for that?

i'd probably even buy at $200 but i really think $300 is the floor.  either that or the graphics on this is much worse than the reveal video presented it as.  clearly it is spec somewhere under xbox one but it was pretty powerful for something where all the processing (mobile or on tv) is in the tablet part of the console.  a form factor that small will drive the cost up.  the stand won't be unreasonably expensive but it will add at least $10 or soo too and nintendo already said they won't sell at a loss.

As the Pi guy pointed out, the Nvidia shield is only $200 and has essentially the same internals.

I don't think it uses the same internals.

BTW will the dock be sold apart or bundled??? What accessories are bundled??? Looks to have a lot of options for controllers alone.

Dock and tablet controllers are included. Pro controller and dock thing for tablet controller are sold separately.

It's the same Tegra x1 or x2 chip.

The Shield is probably a bit weaker
Even if it wasn't, the shield is just the tablet and doesn't come with anything else

The thing is probably going to be sold at 300, if Nintendo wants a profit.  It also depends how thin Nvidia wants its margin on the device.  But what it will be and what the device needs to be are two different things.  This thing needs to be 200 for it to sell even 3DS numbers.  300 and Nintendo better start calling Sony and Microsoft for dev kits.
