Maybe the biggest threat to PSVR

Some people have been painting a grim picture for the future of VR. Is it too expensive? Does it lack support? Personally I think PSVR excels in both areas with a whole host of games set to release for the device in the short future and a pretty good launch price. So what could be the biggest threat?

Is VR socially accepted?

Let's get this straight, VR isn't something new but it's the first time ever that VR as been backed on this scale by so many companies. VR is ready in that sense with big companies making headsets and big gaming developers supporting it eg: VisionEck  ;) . Now while us game nerds wouldn't think twice about buying a product like this, beyond that I'm a little sceptical if it can penetrate to a wider audience.

The reason for thinking VR isn't socially accepted is just from my own experience. Talking about PSVR to a friend who is a casual gamer (the type who has a game collection consisting of only FIFA and Battlefield) he really doesn't see the point of PSVR. Today, and the reason why I decided to make this thread, my mother and wife see PSVR as a child's toy and they laugh at the idea of putting on a headset and shutting yourself off from the world. That's even before price is mentioned, so you can imagine the reaction I got from telling them that the "antisocial" "child's toy" that is PSVR costs £350.

To clear it up I still think PSVR will be a success even if it initially depends only on the PS4 hardcore gamers, but the long term plan Sony and other companies dipping into VR might have to smash down these walls and change the mindset of casuals gamers and general public.

Is this a dramatic opinion or a reason for concern?

i disagree with your premise.  i'm a gaming nerd and i also think VR is too expensive, too few games, and dorky as all fudge.

I have to disagree. Price is good and the PSVR support is huge.

Nah. Public demos of VR draw large crowds and are a blast with everyone wanting to try it for themselves.

The public opinion among general of VR is very bad true, but it's so simple to change that through hands on exposure.

#1 problem imo is software support. VR is selling as nothing but a gimmeck right now.

I think gimmick is a little strong to use for PSVR because I believe it's truly a viable alternate way to play games with a few AAA games at launch like Driveclub, Tomb Raider and Batman mixed with games that could range from fun to awful but the support is there. You can even watch media and play non-vr games with the headset in non-vr mode which I also think is pretty cool.

I agree that demo units will go someway to changing the publics perception of VR but how dramatic is yet to be seen. People still feel awkward to using voice recognition on consoles and phones nevermind using a radical way of playing games so I'm not expecting a huge mindset shift anytime soon.

With all that said I'm talking like it is a problem which might not be the case. I'm just proposing that it could be a problem.
