I don't have too much experience with depression, so I can't be too much help there.

Anxiety is my bag though.  I have a lot of experience with that.  I'm anxious all of the time.  It stops me from talking to anyone, teachers, friends, etc.  Makes it hard to do new things.
But for both things, I think it's hard to help.  There's no magic phrase that stops people from being anxious, and not depression.  What works for some people might even be ridiculously insensitive to tell to someone else.

I find that I am better at not being anxious, just helps to be anxious for a while and take part in experiences, regardless of how awful they feel.

Just have to remember there is someone out there who is worse than you.  I felt like thinking about that helped me get my license despite anxiety.
Just think, there is someone out there with a  license who is way worse than I am!
There's murderers, and lots of awful people out there.  You are better than them!

Let's talk about my case... anxiety.

I was a high anxiety guy, well I'm one yet but I can control it in some ways... I will list here what happened me:

1. Reading hobby... that is some key for me I started to read a lot.

2. Study a lot... I know it is weird but if I had some knowledge of the subject I can talk with people without get nervous and anxiety... that helped a lot in public presentations at classes.

3. Some sport... to be fair do something that make you sweat... I get more calm after little muscles activities... water activities were the best for me.

4. Think before talk... yeap it hard but I start to think a lot before talk making some little pauses and that makes me fell better and less anxiety.

5. Get drunk... the crazy here... social drinking activities helped a lot... how old are you? Don't get drunk alone please because it is supposed to make you fell better when in group of people... my anxiety come from timidity.

7. Some role playing activity.., I did some and I found it cool.

I don't remember more hints in my case but in any way I was always positive about what I was doing... I can't say I was depressed because I always had fun, found interesting and thought it was helping in my activities to calm down my anxiety.

In some anxiety crisis I couldn't even close a door or put my scholar material in a bag... it was crazy how I get nervous and I could do nothing in this state.

Edit - I changed a little my personalitie... before I found myself really anxious when I did something not expected or different from others people... I fear them making fun of me... I accepted myself and these little things I do different started to be part of me... I do some awkward things different than most people but I don't have fear or shame about them... I found myself cool because I'm different and I make fun of myself together with others.

Accept yourself is really the dream when come to anxiety for me.

Edit 2 - I don't know how is where you live but here in Brasil it is common to get help with psychologist to help with depression. Some friends near me get really great results after some sessions talking with psychologist.

See a professional if you feel bad.

Usually what works best is a combination of good diet, regular exercise, cognitive behavioral therapy and possibly medication as well, depending on seriousness. So, get some help to get a diagnosis and a real plan.

Most people can't deal with depression on their own

I was going to say to get more active.  A healthy body, leads to a healthy mind.  Slothing around makes you depressed.  Not sure what to do for anxiety.  So good job Dr. Pezus XD

Something similar for anxiety. Lifestyle changes and cbt can be even more effective for that though.

yea ive had to deal with this my whole like..

Weed has always helped alot, but is certainly not for everyone as i know some people who have things get worse when they blaze..

i tend to avoid alcohol because it tends to make me feel deperessed the next day and out of wack.

I try to avoid caffiene cause it can make my anxiety rocket.

having someone you can spend time with that understands it and that your able to talk to freely

get active in the early day.   do something thatll get the heart pumping.  a short jog, a run..  it gets the day going and can help you feel more positive, plus i remember hearing your body releases endorphines or something like that when you exercise lol

those, and nightly medication.. a tricyclic antidepressant.    I try my best to stay clear of benzo's

My advice is probably less conventional. But have an adventure. Yes, it can be costly, but it would be worth it. You could try something like the burning man, a curze or a trip to a country you always wanted to go. Changing your perspective can change your life. And it gives you something to think about when you get down. The memorries of that adventure or day dreaming looking forward to it. And if you cant do that then set goals, small ons at first and work your way up. Once you start to meet them you'll start to fell better and proude of what you,ve done. And that leads me to my last tip. Make something, it dosnt matyer if you dont know how to make it. Do it anyway. The satisfaction of making always make me feel better.
