If you could, what single law would you make?

I'd make piracy a bigger crime. Don't send people to jail, but teach them how corporations aren't always evil with a bajillion dollars.

Or I'd make medicine advertizing illegal. Doctors should decide what people use, not marketing. UK does this.

i'd write a constitutional amendment.

the problem i'm trying to solve is inequitable treatment of our citizens.  i believe our laws need to pass a smell test of "if it doesn't work for every citizen than it doesn't work for any citizen".  so it is basically an expansion of the 1st, 13th, 15th, 19th, and 26th amendments to make them far more absolute and far reaching.

i'm not lawyer but the gist is this:  "no law can be written that makes specific mention of any race, gender, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, income, region of residence, or age except in the protection of minors".

next i'd write a law against  those that govern.

not sure how to phrase this but as an example i think the texas abortion law that the supreme court struck down should be illegal to create.  a politician that intentionally miss markets why they are writing a law because they are hoping to utilize the law to discriminate against a type of citizen of entity should be illegal.

the texas abortion laws will clearly not intentioned to promote women's health but rather from a way to close down abortion clinics.

also most voter laws are clearly politically motivated to make it difficult or impossible for certain citizens to vote.

i think these kinds of laws are despicable and the politicians that write and vote for them should fear the risk of being jailed for them.

I would have a law that provides a clear cut definition of hate speech so that people stop conflating hate speech with opinions they disagree with.

I'd also like a law that limits how much influence corporations can have on politicians so that the politicians' ideas are forced to stand on their own merits. However, how to go about this, I don't know...

the only meaningful way to do it i think is to have all elections be publicly financed.

money is the root of all evil as they say.  so long as politicians need money to get elected they'll take money from special interests to finance their election campaigns.

not sure if that would really work in practice but maybe.

I've thought about reasonable hard caps on campaign finances. That way, no matter where your money came from, you are not likely to have a ton more money than the other guy. You'd have to make wise use of it and couldn't pretty much drown your opponents out.

That's what England does.
