QuoteIn a first for VR games, Highwire Games's upcoming PlayStation VR adventure Golem will alternate back and forth between VR gameplay and traditional TV-based gameplay.

"We knew that people's tolerance for VR was something that they had to develop over time and that the first time someone was in VR that you had to get them out of it fairly quickly," explained Golem lead designer and longtime Halo designer Jaime Griesemer. "[We'd have to get people out in] even a minute or two in some cases, and then stop and assess how they're doing. It's kind of like strength training."

Really hope I can disable that. I had zero issues in gear vr. And psvr is quite a bit better than that

QuoteGriesemer emphasized that the meat of the game is in PlayStation VR: "We're trying to do the things that fit in VR in VR and the things that fit on a 2D screen on a 2D screen," he said, and made reference to the fact that Golem is a full-length traditionally structured game when he added that "most [VR] games don't last long enough to need something like this."

Still seems really lame if I have to remove the headset every now and then.

NeoGAF - View Single Post -  GOLEM is PSVR and PS4 "Enforced Breaks"

QuoteAs someone who is actively developing for this platform, I feel the need to comment on this: We've lately been running early test candidates for VR builds of our game, determining tolerances and pinpointing areas in need of further optimization to allow for a smooth and seamless experience. Generally this means extended sessions in VR. We've taken steps to maximize comfort and minimize disorientation above all else, with good results. I cannot stress enough, however, that wearing any HMD for extended periods does increase eye strain, headaches, and in certain cases neck discomfort and post-VR disorientation.   Even good VR can be too much for a lot of people if worn too long.  If a game has natural segues that allow the user a short break, this will allow them to extend their gaming sessions for as long as they are normally accustomed to.  Before this news broke we were also contemplating such intermissions, so I absolutely commend these guys for thinking along similar lines.  Sony has made it clear that user comfort is paramount, and this is being enforced however not in terms of play time. The headset has some cool features which can play into this, however, in a manner that can even fit within a game's narrative.  So, tldr; people need to back off with their criticism in this case, because these devs are doing the right thing. You'll probably be grateful for their efforts in the end
