So i was at bestbuy making a return and I noticed they had a gear vr on display.  The phone in the gear vr was not an s6 maybe a note? Not sure. So the resolution wast as great as it could have been.

The first thing i noticed was the screen door effect. It wasn't what I was thinking it would be like. But it went away quickly and I didn't notice it much unless i went looking for it.

Field of view could have been better. Basically if you take your hands and put them in a vertical flat palm with you thumbs on your temple and then curl your fingers till they touch will give you a ruff idea how big your field of few is. People with small framed glasses, this field of view should be familiar to you. It's just all the blurry beyond the frames will now be black. After a few mins this isn't as pronounced as it was once you first put on the headset.

I felt the experience would have been better with out my glasses, Not sure why i didn't take them off. But the closer i pushed the head set to my face the better everything looked.

The optics are smaller than those of any of the high end head set, maybe about the size of a silver dollar.

I only tired two things the cinema and 360 photo viewer. Both where impressive. I felt like I was going to fall when looking at a photo of the golden gate bride form a birds eye view. and the movies play in the cinema app where 3d which was better than a normal 3d movie you'd see at a real theater.

I don't think they had the brightness set right on the screen. It was too bright and started to hurt my eyes by the end of the session. I think that might be a big part of people getting sick with these things. You can beam that much light directly into your eye balls!

I feel using the track pad and button on the head set will get annoying really fast. They should have added a cheap remote you could hold in your hand instead.

There's a sensor that lets the head set know you have it on. and it sucks. because every time you pull away from the screen it goes black and take a second to get it back once you place it back on your face.

I think VR is going to be great, But i'll wait on the high end head sets. Sorry GearVr!

Sub 1080, better than 720. That's all I can tell you.

Yeah, all the compatible ones use that resolution.

QuoteThe "screen door effect" is highly dependent on the type of sub-pixel placement used by the screen. It is possible to lessen that effect by placing pixels in a different way, or to make it worse. Simply saying that the panel's resolution is 1080p isn't enough information to answer that question.
But do keep in mind that many technically oriented people tested the device and I never seen a single one complain about image quality.

QuoteI used a oculus DK2 quite heavily for a few months.
The main thing I took away from the experience, after switching from full blown 4k monitor to DK2, was that the graphics are often heavily, HEAVILY downgraded to go into VR (looking at you project cars).
But, importantly, even with technically terrible graphics, the immersion more than made up for them. Project cars particularly had some serious graphical issues on the DK2, missing shadows in one eye, wierd lighting effects, blocky, low res graphics, but still, i preferred the immersive VR experience much much more than playing in super high def on a flat screen.
This is early consumer VR, graphics will imporve over the years, but the sense of immersion and really feeling "there" are much more important than graphical fidelity.

Question:
I wear glasses. Is that a problem?

Answer:
I wear glasses and have no problem putting this on over them. Also you can adjust the lenses so I'm finding with my Myopia, I don't even need my glasses on.

didnt know that

I think they have the smallest optics out of the group.

Isn't the s6 the lowest res of supported devices?
