gamrConnect Forums - Revelation That Kojima Was Blocked From Attending The Game Awards Wasn't Rehearsed

Quote

During The Game Awards earlier this month, host Geoff Keighley revealed that Konami had prevented Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima from attending the show.  As it turns out, Keighley did not rehearse this ahead of time, and  those working on the show didn't know what he was going to say.

Prior to the show, Keighley had sent out a number  of tweets about Kojima, none of which indicated that he wouldn't be  there. As for why he did this, Keighley said,  "I wanted him to know that we were thinking of him. I was trying to do  all I could to make him feel connected to the show, even if he couldn't  be with us physically in LA. Heartbreaking situation."

Keighley  also reiterated what he said during the speech, that Kojima was  watching the awards from Japan. "Yes, he was watching it live in Tokyo  with friends," he said. "He tweeted a bit during the show."

Following the end of the show, Kojima tweeted, "Thank you very much."

While  the split between Konami and Kojima was known to be acrimonious, it  came as as a surprise that he was not allowed to attend the event. GameSpot reported earlier this year that Kojima would part ways with the company following the release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Since then, there have been reports of a power struggle at the company. Kojima's name was removed from its customary spot on The Phantom Pain's box art, and Silent Hills, his collaboration with Gullermo del Toro, was canceled.

Really sad that it has come to this. Strangely it was at first reported that Kojima left his position but Konami later said he was on vacation. Kinda strange way to end your relationship with a company that you worked with for years.

Hopefully he finds success post-Konami life.

I think the whole thing is just weird.
Konami is like a super villain, and Lex Luther is in charge.

They aren't just silly, or over strict.  They just look plain evil at this point.

Really? Anybody stop to think a little about Kojma?

He is eccentric and maybe he asked too much to Konami.

I'm not saying Kojima is wrong... I'm just saying that what happened between them maybe is fault from both sides.

I'm not saying Kojima is perfect.

I'm just saying it's weird how bad Konami is looking right now.

Maybe they got sick of him - I heard he kept on doing stuff and then changing them last minute but who knows.

Still, you don't treat one of your top developers like this. What the heck else is Konami known for other than MGS? Maybe Silent Hills and Kojima was the one to bring that series back from the dead and they decide to just cancel it because of some personal vendetta against Kojima?

Then they don't even allow him to attend an award show to accept awards for a game he is responsible for? I don't really care what Kojima did, Konami's actions here are inexcusable and childish. If Kojima really did do something bad to Konami they would have said so to try to put out the fire. My guess is Kojima asked for more time/money for MGS V and Konami flat out refused.
Legend made me remove this. Everybody riot.

I agree with Riders. Regardless of the reasons why Kojima and Konami have parted ways, Konami has pretty much done everything to look like the incompetent bad guy. From claiming Kojima was "just on vacation" to removing his name from a title he developed to blocking him from accepting any awards he earned including threatening legal action if he so much as attended the event. Unless Kojima was found to have sexually molested a company executive's young daughter or some other nasty crime that would have seen him in prison by now then there is no reason for Konami to take the steps they have. There is no reason to consider the position of a group of adults acting like this. They're like an angry ex-wife out to make their former husband's life a living hell.

Cant disagree with that.
