How did your most anticipated games of 2015 deliver? What are your most anticipated games of 2016?

Just saw the thread on Gaf and thought that this would be an interesting idea to talk about here as well. The year isn't over yet of couse but I think we've had enough releases already to have this discussion by now.

2015:

The Order 1886

My anticipation for this had been dipping since the moment I first saw gameplay, but I'd be lying if I said that I didn't still have some hope left for this until it released. Granted I have not played the game (saw it on Youtube only), but the mediocre reviews and what I saw outside of those reviews simply tell me that the game has not delivered what I'd hoped. At this point I have no interest in playing this, maybe as a free PS+ title but not under other circumstances.

MGS V

A game I was hugely hyped for that unfortunately released in the middle of me writing my bachelor thesis, I somehow still managed to convince my roommate to get the game on PC and got to experience a couple hours of gameplay and a lot of the story that way. While the game definitely was fun, I'd still call it somewhat of a disappointment, the writing and story just didn't seem that good and the gameplay sometimes tended to overstay its welcome with how repetitive it became in its mission design. The game went from a "soon as possible"-purchase to a "maybe sometime in the future"-purchase for me.

Bloodborne

This one fortunately fully delivered and even exceeded my expectations. At the point of Bloodbornes reveal I had never played a Souls game (mainly because I'm not a fan of western fantasy which the series is heavily borrowing from) but was very intrigued and excited by Bloodbornes visual design. This made me later go out and buy Dark Souls and while I did enjoy that, I didn't think it was the revelation that its hardcore fanbase seems to take it for. Much to my positive surprise Bloodborne managed to captivate me way better, from its visual style, to its fast and tight gameplay and its setting and story direction, this one truly blew me away. I can't wait for the DLC.

All the other games I was really looking forward to have unfortunately been delayed out of 2015, kinda telling isn't it? :D

Now for 2016:

Persona 5

It was my most anticipated game of 2015 and this trend continues into the next year, this game just looks to become a complete masterpiece to me, my biggest worry here is that it will be delayed again.

Uncharted 4

I, like most, can't wait for the ending of this series, everything we've seen of this looked brilliant so far to me, even the multiplayer which some people are worried about is one I can't wait to try out soon. March 2016 can't come soon enough.

Horizon

Robo Dinos and Bows? What's not to like? I've wanted Guerrilla to step away from Killzone for some time now and am really glad that they have been given the chance to do so. Until now it looks like they've got a real winner on their hands and I can't wait to see how this one turns out.

And to not have this post turn out too long I'll list the other games that I'm also hyped for but not quite as much without explicit explanations.

SFV
R&C
WiLD
Rime
FFXV
DQXI
DSIII
NMS
Abzu
Nier

I think there's more but I can't think of it right now.

Legend

Uncharted 4

By far my most anticipated game. I love Uncharted, and I mean love it. My only two platinum trophies are for Uncharted 3 and Uncharted Golden Abyss. I bought a Vita at launch just for Uncharted GA, and I wasn't even disappointed. Love the franchise and love Naughty Dog. Sucks it needed to be delayed, but I'm glad they're taking their time.

Halo 5

At this stage, I have zero faith in 343i. Halo 5's story IMO is even worse than 4s. Expected it to be the game to push me to get an XBO, but now even if I had an XBO I wouldn't want to pay full price for it. SOOOOOOOOOOO DISAPPOINTING! In my headcanon I think I'll just act like Halo 4 and Halo 5 don't exist. Halo 4's Sparton Ops was good though, that's in my canon. Probably only good because it had zero bungie characters.

MGSV

Only game I played this year, and man was it great!!!! Second chapter sucked compared to the first, but that doesn't stop it from being a 10/10. Started the year with practically zero interest but after playing Ground Zeroes I started getting hyped. Awesome amazing game, fantastic.

2016:
Elite Dangerous: super hyped. I love the potential
Uncharted 4: GOTG
Horizon: Love killzone, plus this looks great
TLG: Love ICO and SOTC so sweet!
Mirror's Edge: Liked the first, hopefully this is good
For Honor: Awesome!
South Park: YES!
Detroit: sweet, I love david cage games

Xevross

I wasn't too hyped for any game this year but I guess my most anticipated were...:

The Order: I enjoyed it a lot more than other people, I think. It was a bit short and the story wasn't brilliant but the graphics were amazing and I enjoyed the gameplay.

Bloodborne: amazing, absolutely amazing. So much fun, extremely well made... not much more to say.

Uncharted Collection: I had never played 1, so I was looking forward to that. It was really, really good. 2 was as amazing as I remembered and I've yet to play 3 in the collection but that shall be soon!

Battlefront: Not out yet but hype!!!

2016

Horizon: So much hype for this. It just looks and sounds incredible in so many ways. My most hyped game by a mile

Uncharted 4: Love me some Uncharted and this game looks just as awesome as the original 3. If its as good as TLOU I may fall in love!

GT Sport: Love racing games, love GT ... can't wait!

Horizon: HYPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NeverDies

I'd say my most anticipated game from 2015 was Bloodborne.

And it was amazing. I played the PS4 port of Dark Souls II afterwards, and Bloodborne blew it out of the water.

The Order 1886: Honestly disappointed a bit. i knew what i was getting into. a 7~hour long story mode. i didnt care about the critisim, because this game promised to be a journey, an experience, and that is what i cared for the most. the gunplay turned out to be fun, the story interesting, the boss fights intense. but over all, it was lacking in every department other than music, graphics and sound design. its a fun game, hopped for a second one (thats not happening though). overall its a decent game, not as good as i was hoping it can be.

Dying Light: i really enjoyed Dead Island, so i had hope for this. it was a good game, fun. but not the best. you can say it was just slightly under my expectation

The Witcher 3: Blew my fudgy mind away. it looked great, and before i bought it i was very hyped for it. i was worried about gameplay and combat though, but it played awesome. GOTG material. thats how good it was.

Mad Max: Honestly very disappointed. so much potential and they had great ideas, but execution was very bad. i wont even bother finishing the game. (though its graphics are outstanding!)

kitler53
