Microtransactions suck and almost always the game devs/pubs should be called out for them, but nowadays they're just so common.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is unique because it has zero multiplayer and still has microtransactions. Yuck!

QuoteIn Rise of the Tomb Raider, you'll earn credits by completing challenges and exploring the world. These credits can be used to purchase Expedition Card packs. When used, Expedition Cards become modifiers in the extra game modes detailed above. Some Cards are humorous, such as Big Head Mode, while others can increase the challenge or give you special advantages. There are two types of Expedition Cards: Foil and Common. Foil Cards offer the strongest or strangest variations and can be used as many times as you wish. A Common Card can only be used once, and you'll need to earn more credits to buy it back. Expedition Cards offer hundreds of ways to customize your Rise of the Tomb Raider experience. Uncover, unlock, experiment, and enjoy!
These cards are listed on the XBOX store: Silver Pack - Gold Pack - Challenge Pack - Advantage Pack - Wild Pack

Not only is this one of the worst types of microtransactions(random results containing duplicates), it's also in a game that has literally zero excuses for it. Messed up. I'll have to see how things are in a year, but I might end up boycotting the game because of this :(

Yeah, I saw that yesterday. I'm still not totally sure what these items you're able to get from these packs are even supposed to do and who thought random item collection was a good idea for a singleplayer game.

Sounds like a reward for playing the game, or otherwise someone can pay to get credits.

Lots of cards are temporary, meaning you need to keep paying for them.

At least you can earn credits by playing.
Not completely different than say PvZ2.  Cards were depletable and had to be rebought with credits.
