SAG-AFTRA Video Game Voice Actors Authorize Strike - NeoGAF

Quotehttp://variety.com/2015/film/news/sa...ke-1201612750/
QuoteSAG-AFTRA video game voice actors have authorized the union’s national board to call a strike with 96.5% of those voting backing a work stoppage.
SAG-AFTRA plans to ask companies to return to the bargaining table. Previous talks in February and June failed to produce an agreement on a successor deal.
“It is important to note that the referendum result does not mean that members are on strike, rather, it gives the National Board the authority to declare a strike,” the union said. “A 75% ‘yes’ vote was required to give the National Board that authority. With this result in hand, the Negotiating Committee will seek to return to the bargaining table and continue to press for a fair resolution on behalf of performers working in video games.”
SAG-AFTRA is also seeking language covering what it called “vocally stressful” recordings, stunt coordinators on performance capture and transparency during auditions.

There is more in the article at the jump above.

Will be interesting to see how things go.

I do believe this includes Nolan North and Troy Baker. Not really nobodies.

Again, nobodies. Say those names to gamers who aren't forum dwellers and see what response you get

If that's your definition of nobodies, then it includes everyone except maybe Kojima.

If CoD and games stopped being released then people would notice. Just like when garbage men went on strike the city of San Francisco noticed really fast. I couldn't tell you the name of either a garbage man or someone working on Cod but they aren't nobodies. Voice actors go on strike? Next cod is online only and nobody notices

I think a fair amount of people would notice.  Small compared to the overall CoD market, but still pretty sizable.  (10% of that market, is likely a few million.)  Also GTA is huge as well.  That main focus is the single player, but the multiplayer is very popular.
Thus far, the next CoD does have a campaign.

VA go on strike then the next Gta has  a mob boss who got shot in the throat and another one who got cancer and talks like stephan hawking. Nobody notices

i've got not problem wanting better working conditions but the royalties thing is battleship.  some guy is don't give a shame about was replaced with some other guy i don't give a shame about in MGS V and nobody gave a shame.  http://gamerant.com/metal-gear-solid-5-no-david-hayter/

royalties is a profit share to lure big name performance artists onto projects in which the performer has a significant impact on the level of success the project has.  johnny depp gets and deserves royalties for his work.  that nobody who played scrooge on the particular performance of a christmas story i saw last holiday doesn't and doesn't deserve it,.. he's a nobody.

nolan north is a fudgy nobody.  you could fire his dog from uncharted and replace him with whomever and i won't give a shame.  he doesn't deserve a percentage cut of all uncharted sales from now until forever for his 8 months of work on top of his six figure yearly salary.

I have to agree here. What's worse is if people even less talented and prolific than Nolan North are also insisting on royalties. Ali Hillis is hot but she's not particularly talented. If you don't know who she is, she did the voice for Liara in Mass Effect and Lightning in Final Fantasy 13. I think she was also that female doctor in Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty. If she insists on having to fudge fewer people for her jobs that's fine. Royalties? fudge out of here. You're lucky you got your job even if you did get bent over and loaded up like a shotgun for it.

She should be paying the FF fans....

Spoiler for Hidden:
Okay, it&#39;s not her fault. &nbsp;<br>

Yeah dude. Her voice is always like this "I was out partying and smoking late last night but now I have to be super serious about something while keeping my voice down so my headache doesn't flare up". Somehow she gets anywhere from 5 to 9 voice acting roles a year on big titles since 2010. The whole thing about her screwing people for her roles? Not even a joke on my part. I heard rumors years ago that she exploded in the voice acting scene by doing sexual favors. Which is also rumored to be the reason she still gets jobs in actual acting parts.

Yet people like Georgia van Cuylenburg, who played Vanille in Final Fantasy 13, actually have to do things with their voice. She was interviewed by Kevin VanOrd on Gamespot years ago and she briefly talked about the noises she was required to make so that the Western Vanille matched the Japanese Vanille in eccentricity as much as possible. The fact that Ali Hillis got tons of roles even after her bland performances while Georgia struggles to find work is really shaming.

Yeah fudge Ali, she replaced Alyson Court as Claire in RE: Revelations 2.  Court, up until that point, was the only voice actor to play a character right through the series!

She's not even hot!

I think she's good looking but she's not anyone whose voice should be used for a main character and there is no reason, as far as talent goes, that she gets an dog load of roles but Cuylenburg hardly gets any. Cuylenburg is also better looking, IMO.
