The Witness Launches on PS4 January 26, 2016 – PlayStation.Blog

QuoteThere's a lot here. When we started making this game, I figured it would have between 8 and 12 hours of playtime. As it happens, the game we've finally built is around 10 times as big as that: if you are a completionist who wants to wring every last drop out of the game, you might expect to play for 80 hours, or possibly 100. For people who don't want to go quite that far, the game's still got plenty for you.

And then half of the 2016 games will be delayed to 2017 :(

The game had been delayed quite a lot as Blow was originally hoping to get it ready around the PS4's launch nearly two years ago. "We originally thought The Witness would be coming out toward the end of the PS4 launch window, but... there's just been a lot to do," Blow said on the PlayStation Blog. "I think when the game is in your hands, you'll find it to be intricate and deep, and also unlike anything else you have played."

"I figured it would have between eight and 12 hours of playtime. As it happens, the game we've finally built is around 10 times as big as that," Blow explained. "If you are a completionist who wants to wring every last drop out of the game, you might expect to play for 80 hours, or possibly 100. I'm kinda worried about the game's puzzles. Every panel so far shown looks easy once you get the hang of it. Is this just me? I'm kinda worried that since I solve rubik's cubes and spatial puzzles as a hobby, I'll approach the grids algorithmically and miss out on the challenge/aha! moments.

I'll definitely go for 100% without a guide!

as i understand it the panels are only the micro puzzles. the world map interacts together or something. i've seen some screens that look to me like really clever world interactions and jonathan set those screens up to highlight that i'm sure. in practise it would probably take me a long time to see the puzzle.

i can't find a screen now but i've seen one panel that looked ridiculously complex.

Wait, those panels are the only puzzles in the game?

Yeah lots of panels interact with each other, but I'm worried it'll be limited to restricting which panels are accessible. I've yet to see a panel that isn't solvable from the moment you walk up to it.

They're the only mechanic in the game, but who knows how later ones will work.

I should officially cancel the game. Then secretly come back when it's finished.

Spoiler for Hidden:

Figured it out before watching the rest of the video where he spoils the beginning and the black dots.

The end of the video sounds more promising though.

Pretty cool how some panels are used for completely non puzzle things. Getting some myst underground train vibes.
