Haha yeah. There are so many different points to be made about C3's destruction and the cloud, yet everybody seems to be lumping them together.

My thoughts are that it's nice that Microsoft is finally using the cloud in a game. "Teh powa of da cloud" was always a PR joke and still is, but cloud assisted gaming is a very real and pretty cool thing. Crackdown is basically the first large scale implementation of offloading complex physics and that makes it a great test of the tech.

At the same time, I think Microsoft is only paying for this because of PR/advertising, not because they wanted a great game. Basically every building in Crackdown is running off its own server. A MP match isn't using just 1 dedicated server, but like 40. That's a huge operating cost that even for an MMO/subscription game wouldn't really be financially viable. If Microsoft didn't own their own servers and basically get this for free, I highly doubt it'd be possible for a one time purchase game.

Also, the destruction just doesn't look that good. If the game had a realistic art style and was a graphics beast, the destruction would feel awesome! Instead Crackdown is toon shaded and visually looks like a last gen game. It feels like the GPU is not being pushed and should be able to handle the physics locally. No way could a single Xbox One handle the entire city exploding at the same time, but it certainly could handle a single building collapsing/exploding as shown in the demo. A real MP match with normal strength weapons doesn't feel too unrealistic for the Xbox One to handle. The cloud feels more necessarily for logistic reasons of doing online destruction, rather than the Xbox One being too underpowered.

and Sea of Thieves. mark my words, thats gonna be F2P as well.

but i agree with you legend,.. the destruction just looked bad even if it was computationally heavy.  either C3 is being shown waaaaaay to early or it will be a xbox's "the order 1886",.. impressive tech wrap around a bad game.

Which will be a huge shame. It looked good even though it wasn't what I wanted from Rare.

It's been a while since we've had great console war gifs :(

Yeah "fun wise," destruction is basically the only thing the game has going for it. If the game is good, it's not going to be because of story/smooth gameplay/action/guns/etc., it's going to be the destruction.

Hmm.

Is sea of thieves announced for windows 10?

I was mostly referring to the aesthetics. The cartoony style looked appealing to me.

by what metric?   they didn't actually show anything beyond the artistic direction.  the "gameplay" never moved beyond walking though an environment.

yes. and this will be another game microsoft announces that tries to pass it off as a full priced AAA game when it isnt. Fable legends and Phantum Dust, now this and Recore will follow suit.

Oh yeah if it's coming to windows, then it's free to play in one form or another.

Killer Instinct: free to play
Project Spark: free to play
Fable Legends: free to play

I think Ori and the blind forest was the only non AAA game cross Xbox One and windows to not have some free to play component.

Off topic, but do you think that free to play business works on consoles?  Like, Resident Evil Revlations 2's mercenaries mode has the free to play model where you buy consumables.  But I'm not sure if it works for businesses.

It works. World of Tanks was one of the first free to play console games and it has been very successful on 360, and just had an Xbox One port announced.
