Quote from: Legend on Aug 23, 2015, 01:34 AMIt's QA for 9 year old systems using an engine that's already released three games for those systems. It's pretty run of the mill with most bugs being quick to fix. Not even close to the difficulty of debugging for the next gen or PC versions.

As far as games being buggy last gen, I wouldn't consider it any worse than the current one.

Only merge within an hour, otherwise it stays separate so that the thread is bumped.
Again that doesn't matter; Ultra Street Fighter 4 on PS4 would have been a perfect release with that logic.  You have to black box test each version of the game.  You have to run through each square inch of the game, play through every mission, then run through every inch of the game again after each mission.  Do every mission with each character.  You have to test to make sure each audio clip plays through, test to make sure each texture is there and not missing because of caching issues with your development tools, test to make sure the game doesn't crash when you're syncing controllers, etc.  Guess what happens when you do find a bug?  Regression testing!  And you have to everything you just did, again.  That's regardless of processor, programming language, or development tools.  Metal Gear Solid 5 is a very big game.

this post makes me very nervous for you game's release.

i work in software too and it supports both oracle and SQL.  we do all our development in SQL but the oracle port of each release is still about 25% of the original work.  even if the oracle port is flawless i still have to run all the QA on the release and that takes a lot of time and effort.

9 year old machines is irrelevant,..  you aren't testing the machine you are testing the code.

I'm not saying QA is a walk in the park for last gen, just that it's way more likely to go smoother and faster. When fixing a bug you're less likely to create new ones. You know the saying "99 little bugs in the code, 99 little bugs. Take one down, patch it around, 127 bugs in the code."

That's what makes QA such a big amount of work, having to recheck the game after every change only to find new bugs. But when the hardware and software are extremely well documented and understood, bug fixing is way less likely to cause more bugs.

Guess my answer above goes for you too. I didn't mean for this to become a big debate haha.

Too bad! :P.  Like Kitler said; hardware doesn't matter.  Unless you're debugging assembly.  Though, it can be an issue as I've personally lost a week if not more into optimizations because of ram/os issues.  But there is no shortcut to debugging a game last gen or otherwise.  The regression testing is a huge issue and it gets worse as you add platforms.  Fully debug one console takes a certain amount of time.  Adding another adds an equal amount of time because you have to play through the entire game, run into issues not present in other consoles, etc.

Quote from: Aura7541 on Aug 22, 2015, 04:45 PMI think Square is merely riding the XBO versions of KH3 and FFXV out. Kagari did say that had they known how this gen was going to turn out, most likely those two games would be PS4-only.
There's always next-gen

Cute Pikachu

So apparently according to the WSJ, Nintendo will have the hh and hc skus but put the most powerful chips out right now into them.
Hype increasing...

Definitely releasing holiday 2016 if kits are being sent out in mass now.

Probably revealed in January.

There is also the fact about this with Monolith Soft:
http://www.siliconera.com/2015/10/16...mass-openings/

QuoteHere's what they have under their Tokyo office recruitment section:

Programmer
Planner
3DCG Designer (Urgent!)
2D Designer
Effect Designer
Motion Designer
Project Manager

Followed by one for the Kyoto office:

3DCG Designer (Mass Recruitment!)
Effect Designer
Motion Designer
Also a reminder that Tetsuya Takahashi wants to focus on story for his next game:

QuoteKeep in mind that Xenoblade Chronicles X executive director Tetsuya Takahashi previously commented in the guidebook for the RPG that he'd like to use the experience him and Monolith Soft have obtained in the development of Xenoblade Chronicles X in order to make his next title something that is rich in story.

Added a poll to the thread.

If NX switches to x86, this could be their first system in a long time to lack BC.
