Ludicrous Speed

And only 103.6MB! Compression wizardry.

I'm going to buy the Master Queef HD Collection and play through it with my son, so it will be a little weird when we get to 5. But give me 60 fps over split screen.

It's just an installer haha.

It's strange that they can't drop it to 30fps for splitscreen though. Heck it could be 20fps at 720p for splitscreen and I'd still love having the option.

For the people that want split screen though, I don't think there's a lot of reason they can't offer both.
If I remember correctly Star Wars Battlefront is offering 60 FPS in single player and 30 FPS in splitscreen(?).

Our posts are super similar haha.

Also battlefront's splitscreen is offline only. 343 could be having issues supporting multiple online players from one console.

Halo 5 listing, dev statement confirm end of series' local multiplayer (Updated) | Ars Technica

Update: A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed to Ars Technica that Halo 5: Guardians will not support any form of split-screen multiplayer, nor will the game natively support LAN play. "The decision [to remove all split-screen modes] was an extremely difficult one for the team, but one that was necessary to deliver the biggest Halo game to date," the representative wrote in a statement. "343's focus is to ensure that fans get the best Halo experience yet, and the team felt a split-screen experience would compromise the gameplay design and the visual bar they've set."

I'm curious about that.  It worked fine for the 360, but it seems like something happened to server code.  I personally see no reason why MCC still has issues, but apparently having 4 games using online in one package is an issue.  Which makes no sense.  Maybe something happened when they switched over to Azure?

Sounds like they just don't have the time to implement split screen properly.

I think in BF's case they feel splitscreen is "backwards" and only something to have for people without internet since the game lacks a campaign. Doubt Azure is the problem since Call of Duty has managed it without issue.

Plus having two people on the same system may double the upstream bandwidth, but for the server that'd be easier than having an extra client.

Yeah that's what it feels like to me. In the beginning they probably wanted full splitscreen options like the previous games, but as deadlines came closer those would have been the first things cut. Releasing this holiday is super important for MS. Will be pretty interesting if any features are cut at launch, only to be patched in.

Call of Duty's 4 games in one?  Hearsay is that they're having trouble with online because of 4 games in one package.  It's the hearsay as to why they're doing just the first Gears and not all 3.  Again, hearsay.  I was just curious if something changed when they switched to Azure.

Ah paragraphs. They change meaning so much!

QuoteI really, really wish a couple of posters in here who should know better  would stop calling us liars.
It makes having discussions almost impossible. We PLAINLY stated this at E3 in several interviews, and if the 117 characters in Josh's tweet aren't detailed enough then say that. The idea that we are deliberately withholding that information is ludicrous. PR 101 would tell you that will blow up in your face.
There is NO reason to lie about it and we (once the final production decision was made) planned to discuss the fact and the reasons.
So instead of this being disappointment about a beloved feature going away, it's back to the usual repetitive cycle of hatred and rage.
I've personally done AT LEAST a half dozen interviews discussing this and the whys. I've also responded to a ton of Twitter threads on the topic. I don't decide what mags and websites print.
But for the love of god, just say you don't like the decision, instead of creating a sinister narrative. I can't even imagine the purpose of "hiding" that fact. We find out which features are included and which aren't as the constantly evolving production schedule and technology shift even as we work on the game.
We have to be careful what we do and don't commit to in speech and in writing, because things change. But this isn't one of those. This was something we stated plainly and apologetically. We knew going into the commitment to the entire engine moving to a 60fps backbone, that there would be compromises, and like any project, we had to weigh the benefits against the negatives.
Of course we'd rather we could include split screen, but the collection of factors we've talked about ad-nauseum means we couldn't.
It's not a plot. It's logistics and performance and technology and schedules and a hundred other factors, but one thing  it is not, is a lie or a conspiracy.
As the game gets closer to final, we'll show off more, and continue to improve it, and share everything we can, and that sometimes means not having all the detail we'd like, because things are always in progress, but please just forget this bizarre notion that this is carefully orchestrated deception. That is a nonsense.

Such a frustrating post and bad example of PR. This is from a community manager type person for 343. He posts in most Halo threads on GAf.

Well unless things change, yes

Well this is a bit of a shambles. I'll ask my halo friends what they think about this

Aura7541

So about the straw poll Legend posted, the percentage of people who use splitscreen and are disappointed about its absence in Halo 5 has risen from 55% to 60%.
