Guess they stuck with the disc drive. Good!

Strange they only announced the 500gb version.

They announced the 1GB but it is the old model... that one you posted in a thread few weeks ago... note the new model changed the code from CUH-11xx to CUH-12xx.

The new model also had a 1tb option.

Guess this is their way to get rid of old stock without losing any money on it.

Ohhh yeah... the new model will have 1GB version too... it was my mistake.

I think I prefered having the two tone color design, but at least this makes it easy to tell the systems apart.

Yeap... mine is more sexy ;)

The HDD now allow full height 2.5"... so yon can put a HDD bigger than 9mm.

Nice. Looks like Sony is taking advantage of the larger profit margin before making the inevitable price cut for the fall/holiday season.

So what will happen to the 500GB model when the 1TB arrives?

The one in Europe is just 1TB, no different hardware

Here's my thinking.

Introduce new 500gb system at $400.

Convert old systems to 1tb and sell at $450 to get rid of stock.

Drop price of both by $100. Old system is mostly gone by then so they then introduce the new 1tb to replace it.

Interesting but I'm not sure people would jump at the $450 price.

They have difference prices... so I guess Sony will sell both now and the 1TB will use the new model when the stocks of old model ends.
