Discuss?

Is Horizon's character concerning to you?
Should we have more options?

I'm not really sure if I should have posted this, since it could be a very controversial topic.
But the topic was brought up and I'm curious to know people's thoughts on the topic.

Games are acting. I act as Nathan Drake, I act as kratos, and I act as Aloy. In games with character creation it's the same thing, only you get to create your role. In different games, different roles are more fun. Just like making a big buffy character or a small stealthy charachter. Mmo and online games I prefer to play as a male, because online people can get weird with girl avatars.

Your post confirms my thoughts that the thread needs a more specific focus.
OP has been updated with such a focus.

Nah I knew, hence the aloy name drop. I'm on mobile so my sentences are kinda poor (more so than usual)

No.
No, unless it has character create. Then yes.

Well you knew where I was going with it, but not everyone will.
And I felt that the thread was too open to really allow discussion.

I don't have a preference. So it really doesn't matter to me. If they feel the female character is best for their game then I'm cool with that. It doesn't take any thing away for me. Besides it easier to look at a woman than it is a man. At least for me. Now it might be a bit weird being a woman in VR. That could be another story.

Women all the way.  Women enjoy playing as them, I enjoy staring at them.  I mean, I'd rather stare at a lady's dog for 40 hours than a guy's.

As long as it fits the story for story type games, which I think i can be mostly a simple thing.
Overall, more diversity in protagonist roles are nice. I do like customization and don't always create a character to reflect me.
Personally I don't really care what is the identity of the main character I'm using in a game. It's more important that the game is fun, which can be affected by a number of things least of which is my own likeness to the character. I will learn to love/understand the character through the story and in which case does not matter race/creed/naughtiness.

Devs should decide gender on what fits their game. I don't care which gender I play as. If Aloy is a woman because it suits horizon better then I applaud the decision. Anyone who complains simply because a character you're playing is a woman (or a man) needs to take a look at themselves

In kinda related discussion, rust has your character randomly built based off your steam username. That means you are stuck with whatever random design they give you unless you change your steam name.

As a social study sure, but as a game mechanic it just sucks. It removes the artistic expression of character creation, forces players into a certain experience, and stops players from starting as equals, all while offering zero positives from a gameplay perspective. Funnily enough I LOVE that Rust is doing this, but I'm much less likely to play the game as a result.
