The point the article is making is that Microsoft has basically jumped into the VR scene but Sony is already ahead. It's making sure the reader understands the big current difference between what Microsoft is doing with VR and what Sony is. After all, tons of people and plenty of media have already jumped on the Microsoft/Oculus partnership as yet another "Microsoft vs Sony" battle.

No I agree the article is fully needed, it's just sad that it's actually needed.

I would probably say that the title need not read the way it does and could actually be worded more along the lines of "Why the Microsoft/Oculus partnership doesn't mean anything for this console generation".
