In this modern day and age, pubs love to make loads and loads of sequels.

Game Name

Game Name 2:(optional sub title)

Game Name 3:(optional sub title)

Game Name 4:(optional sub title)

Game Name 5:(optional sub title)

However there are some problems with this naming system! First off it shows that these franchises are being milked/have been around forever. Who wants to play game:17?

The second problem is that who wants to directly jump into game:17 without playing game:16?

So what will they do instead? Just use sub titles.

Game Name: sub title

Game Name: sub title

Game Name: sub title

Game Name: sub title

etc. etc. etc.

Traditionally this naming convention is reserved for spinoffs, but not anymore! Dragan Age: Inquisition is one of the first games to follow through with this trend. It's Dragan Age 3, just without the 3. Halo 5 is the transition name and then the rest will just be sub titles. My prediction is that the majority of traditionally numbered sequels at E3 will not be numbered.

No Battlefield 4. It'll be Battlefield: subtitle or Battlefield 5: subtitle.
No Mass Effect 4. It's Mass Effect: subtitle.
No Gears of War 4. It'll be Gears 4: subtitle

etc

No. SF will never be on XBO, cause SF6 is never happening.

Yeahhh that doesnt mean everyone will go that route.

Look at japanese developers.

If anything - this will be just a western thing.

Sure, but it's still a new trend.

It's happening right now, but sure!

Halo, Dragon Age, Assassin's Creed, Tomb Raider, and Batman. Post E3 this list should be much larger.

Wasnt the first one called Origins for Dragon Age? Halo sure.

Assassin's Creed been doing it since 2009. I expect a "Assassin's Creed V (Enter subtitle)" to be announced in the immediate future.

Tomb Raider has been doing it since 1999.

Every batman game I can think of even the retro/classics have been like that.

I dont see it as a new trend but just a small expansion only by a few western developers/publishers that has been happening for generations.

Even Sonic the Hedgehog has been doing despite having a sucky lineup of games in that regard since the beginning of the 7th gen.

First was Origins, but second was just 2. However with these it's not that they switched from numbers, but that they aren't using numbers/won't be using numbers for direct sequels.

AC brotherhood and that one after it were a sub series, all following Ezio. The numbered games have all had unique players, up until black flag added the subtitle and unity removed the number. We sure won't be seeing an AC 5 unless trends change again next decade.

Yes Tomb Raider did it with the original series once they got up to 4. With the reboot they're doing it right off the bat with 2.

It's not that the games have subtitles, but that the specific series with direct sequels are not numbered.

Assassin's Creed Bloodlines and Liberation say otherwise :O

Reboot or not - every single Tomb Raider game after IV have all had subtitles - angel of darkness, etc.

I honestly dont see it as a new trend - its just gonna be the same games that are gonna have subtitles rather than numbered sequels.

Games like Final Fantasy, Persona, etc will still have numbers.

We shall, its gonna be the same games that always followed this theme.

Aside from Mass Effect (due to the fact its a new story) I cant see any other title being that way.

Wait... Halo 5 is not Halo 5?
