He's a Halo fanboy and loves Halo. Only in the last two minutes does he actually talk about Tech lol.

Water is dynamic and nice.

Animations are 30fps unless close to the player.

Tons of issues with LOD pop in, texture resolution, and shadow quality. Stay tuned for the next video for details!

Keeps a perfect 60fps, but the game uses dynamic resolution so that's to be expected. Hopefully Digitalfoundry makes a program to analyse resolution over time like they do with framerate. Would be interesting to see.

Also the 30fps animations is absolutely horrible. Wish the game could be locked at 30fps because it'd be much more enjoyable.

Yeah, I just watched it. Who thought that was a good idea. And that's not even that far away. It's like they lag across the screen. Wouldn't it have been better to have everything 30 that way it looks natural.  Or take a bigger graphic hit. The water looked good before you interact with it.

Dropping animation frame rate is just like my biggest graphical pet peeve. Having an LOD equivalent for animations makes sense, but they need a better solution than this.

At least it's only dropping to 30 though. Dragon Age was really bad since they dropped to 15.

QuoteLooking good. Dynamic resolution works great with a game like Halo because the environments basically take place in a fantasy world. Its an artist interpretation. Maybe they wanted that sand to look blurry or the trees to be static.  Games that take place in a real world environment like for example Forza 6. Need to be a 1080p or greater because you are trying to mimic a real environment people can relate to. Either way 60fps is the way to go if you can make it work.

I literally lold from reading " Maybe they wanted that sand to look blurry or the trees to be static"

Lol. No they didnt. And they didn't want it to drop in resolution either and I doubt they wanted 30 fps animations.  They are just playing the cards they are dealt.
Personally I think I would have played them a bit differently.

That video was odd. Like they praised it until the last 30 seconds and then said here at the issues but that's all for now.

Well, as the one that made it, the difficult thing was putting together something interesting enough within the embargo window. Basically, I could only discuss four missions from the game while everything else was off limits. I have a lot of nitpicks and things to point out that are being saved for the next video which we're probably going to call "The Price of 60fps". That was just a quick preview, basically. The thing is, the examples I wanted to use to highlight various issues all occur outside of the missions we could cover.  So, basically, the full article and next video will cover a LOT more. It's still a beautiful game, though, but there are certainly some things that look a bit rough. I still think they made the right choices in order to hit that buttery smooth frame-rate. I seriously cannot get over HOW smooth it really is. I've literally encountered ONE area in the entire game where the frame-rate dipped for ~10 seconds. That's it.

Looks like MP theatre is in!

Legend

Oh, god, no.

MP just went live so of course it's reasonable to have problems, but two hours later "Unable to Connect to Dedicated Server" is still popping up every other match on the stream I'm watching. It's not kicking him out of the game or having any serious adverse effects, but after MCC this netcode needed to be flawless. Hopefully come launch it'll be taken care of.

Welp, another server fail. Kicked him out of matchmaking again.

And another while I was typing this!

Wow. This is not the kind of thing you want happening after the whole MCC debacle.
