Steam Machines are coming this Fall: PS4, Xbox One and Wii U should be terrified - National Video Games | Examiner.com

QuoteNo matter what is happening with these consoles though, Steam Machines are coming this November and they will usher in a new era of living room gaming. Why? Because Valve is delivering the powerful, innovative Steam platform into the console space. Steam — an online only game store and community — has a massive, established following, it lends outstanding customization options for those looking to purchase a Steam Machine, it provides plenty of manufacturers who are making a Steam Machine, possesses addictive Steam seasonal sales and humble bundles and has an ecosystem that has revolutionized the PC gaming space..

Saw it on Chartz, as well. The entry price is too high and I don't even know what the target audience is. PC gamers aren't going to suddenly dump their rigs to get their hands on a Steam Machine nor will console gamers. I would argue that SteamOS might make a dent because it's a free OS and Vulkan is a platform-agnostic API. But Steam Machines? Definitely not.

Nah.....it wont even make a dent to the console market.

The hardware makers will be fighting amongst themselves for competition and pricing.

I have a wonderful idea.  Make mobile chips upgradeable again and let me buy them.

A lot of those Steam machines are using mobile graphics chips.  There was a time when nvidia let you upgrade mobile graphic cards.  Bring that idea back and let me put them into desktops.  A high end mobile graphic card is pretty powerful, cheap and energy efficient.  I'd love to make a small desktop using that kind of power.
