OK guys remember that tease for melee lycan combat at PSX with parts cut out? A lot of people just dismissed "it's just gonna be QTEs, that's why they hid stuff". Well, those people were wrong.
I'm gonna spoiler tag this even though it's not a story spoiler.. because it's still a "gameplay spoiler". Don't read if you want to be surprised. Oh and it does contain a story spoiler for TLOU because of a comparison I make.

Spoiler for Hidden:
The shoulder buttons are used for light, heavy and special attacks (a bar that fills up after sucessful attacks and dodges). You use the right stick to dodge just like in god of war. The actual combat is not made up of QTEs. However, there are small QTEs breaking up the action between "phases". Think like Ellie at the end of the David fight, as an example.

Nice. More on that which I will spoiler tag regarding the first chapter. There is story spoiler here so don't click unless you're okay with having the first chapter significantly spoiled.

Spoiler for Hidden:
You fight three lycans in the first chapter of the game. You are in a generator room with limited space and they come at you from different lanes. You need to back up to cover as many lanes as you can in your field of vision. It appears they never come at you more than one at a time. You have to shoot them while they charge you and then press X to dodge their leap attack. If you don't they could grab you in which case you have to smash a button to get them off. If this happens two or three times in a row you won't be able to fend them off and they'll kill you. Mind you, this is not a QTE moment as you are in full control of your character. It is a context sensitive moment like pushing a button to open a door. <br /><br />After enough shooting and dodging the lycan will fall to the ground at which point you must run up and stab them to finish them off before they regenerate. You have to do this to three lycans in the same room. The third one will escape before you can finish it. You have to give chase with the Arc gun through town. At the end of the chase you must quickly charge the gun and hit the lycan from quite a distance. If you don't, the lycan will maul Igraine, your female companion, to death and you have to redo the chase. Yes. This is the first chapter of the game which lasts about 40 minutes not including deaths.

and the hate this game is getting is making me want it even more

After what I've seen I don't know how it could get hated upon after release, except from the same crowd that to this day still hates TLOU. The same critics that didn't like TLOU probably won't like this, the rest of them should, unless of course they move goalposts or would suddenly not like TLOU today. Which is possible cause these guys are amateur journalists, after all. But we'll see.
I've seen enough and hype meter is off the scale, not going to see anything else until release. Total peace of mind about its quality, keeping the pre-order.

Those who hated TLOU, and ofcourse, those who hate sony ;) lol  everytime i see a troll pop up somewhere to start bashing, i see a new group of people call them an idiot and i cant help but laugh.  There are some people who really hate seeing one awesome exclusive after another on the other guys lol

Ive long had a feeling this game was going to shine, and put alot of hope into them when they said they were looking at ND games as inspiration.  ive had this preordered for like a year lol

I will not be posting anymore spoilers about the game seeing as how we are getting close to release. I figured talking about the first chapter was okay since that is the point of the game where you know the least about it anyways. Regardless of any new information I might find I will not post anything else about it.

Im almost thinking we have a second thread for after release, one where spoilers will be plenty and people know to stay away from lol     then we can jsut merge it back in after we are sure we all played it lol

i think i gotta boycott this thread. gonna get it from USA as a friend of mine is there on vecation, so cheaper and no censoring! yaaay!! but i also gotta wait till she comes back and i see her to get to play it :(

and its around 10 hours long, is it not?
