Quote from: Legend on Aug 25, 2023, 03:35 PMI wish they could just make lazy sequels again. I want Horizon 3 to really push things and become even more of a player driven rpg, but I'd be happy with a GOW3 or TLOU3 that just refines the gameplay and presents a new story.
I really miss the PS3 days, when we could see a great sequel in 2-3 years.

Now it almost feels like we have to wait 4-6 years to get almost anything.

i mean, counter point,...  more games are releasing than i can possibly play.   it's hard for me to complain about the wait for a specific game when i always feel overwhelmed about the number of games i can play right now.

Bluepoint has some amazing remasters and remakes under their belt.

Will their original content be just as good or will it be a bit worse?

Hard to tell. They had the old games to go off of. So I'm not sure if they could nail an original IP. I'm sure it will be a technical marvel but creating a world and gameplay from scratch is another story altogether

have we not already hashed this out?

technically bp are clearly good but that doesn't mean they have any good creatives.   it's a crud shoot until proven.

Probably, and we'll probably hash it out a few more times before their game comes out.

But I'm curious to see where people align themselves.

Do we know of any creative directors or leads they have hired that have worked on big, successful and well received games?

That's something that could push me in a direction of them potentially putting out something great

individuals?   no one I am aware of.  but that doesn't mean they can't be good.  all the best people at one point were unestablished.

Sony is the only reason I haven't written bp's off already.  Sony seems to be good at cultivating a studio.  not exactly sure what Sony does but they have shown good results overall.  clearly bp has a great network of accomplished people to collaborate with or take criticism from or whatever.

but @Pi - I'll give them the benefit of the doubt at the moment.  Sony has enough faith in their project to aquire them and that means something.  ...but that only carries as far as I am anticipating their announcement trailer.   if it's bad then I"m out.

I've similarly heard nothing...

It's a big reason why their project is the one I'm most curious about. That and Demons Souls Remake was one of my favorite games ever.

Legend

Wonder if they'll play it safe and try to replicate a proven formula. Sony has been great at reinventing studios but a simple Demon's Souls/Shadow of the Colossus inspired game could be pretty successful.

I'm pretty tired of people assuming that since they remastered SotC and demons souls that their original game will have to be like those games.

why does copying someone else's code to make a remaster limit what bp can create for their first original game?!?!?

if bp is to be successful they need to find their own voice and not be a copy cat studio.

Or you know, they remade those games because they like those kinds of games. And it stands to reason that they would make another kind of game they like.

I feel like by and large that kind of game would be their own voice. There's nothing else like it made by SIE.

and they also did:
- god of war
- metal gear
- uncharted
- gravity rush
- psasbr

do we have any quotes or whatever saying bp got to choose demon souls as a passion project?!

...they worked on all of these game because Sony paid them to work on those game.

all I'm saying is they've been all over the place on what they've worked with and whatever they make could be anything.   more likely a third person game than a fps or fighter probably.    but 3rd person isn't very limiting in terms of what kind of a game they could create.

>The games we work on, we handpick them.

>There's a lot of really hardcore fans in our studio

There's been a number of comments like that.

Sony didn't pay them to work on MGS :P

I don't have doubts anyone can end up being one of the best creatives if someone would give them a chance. Was mostly just curious whether anyone that had a great track record had started working there.

Sometimes fresh eyes on creative is a really good thing. I'm of the mind most people have the ability to make cool stories that people love especially with the right team.  Just that most people either feel they can't or they just never start trying.
