Kind of been out there for like 6 months at least. I'm not sure what's really new here.

But it's making the rounds for whatever reason.

Seems like Deviation Games was mismanaged. And kind of seemed like a number of the head people took money and ran.

I feel like the "news" is that it's become a slightly more open secret.

Kind of interesting. Never seen this kind of thing before, with Sony creating a studio like this.

Wonder if they are doing the same for Uncharted.

Hopefully they are making something good. After helldivers I can't be dismissive of all Sony's live service games but I hope they're not doing a cod warzone copycat.

I think it would be a tough for anyone to take CoD head on. what makes helldivers work is that squad co-op where dying frequently is part of the fun wasn't a thing yet.

I don't know if there is still a unique space in the fps genre that can be popular but I hope they are at least looking for it. I personally loved the high ttk and squad aspect of killzone but clearly that isn't mass marketable.

So how are we going to find out about this new studio?

An announcement at a showcase, perhaps when the game is ready to be announced?
Random blogpost?
Random studio trademark?

for all we know it won't even be a new studio but a new team in an existing studio.

when we see the game we will know. until then I doubt Sony wants to talk about it so if things don't go well they can quietly close the team.

Nah it will be a new studio. It sounds like the other leaders at Deviation just spent Sony's money on themselves from what I read and Jason Blundell was only interested in making games. What's clearly happened is he left and re-pitched his original idea to Sony but they've brought it in house so know where the funds are actually going. I'd imagine a lot of former deviation will end up at this studio but under management who actually want to make a game. I doubt they'll announce the studio without anything after what happened to Deviation though.

I think Sony will talk about them at naughty3 in just a small blurb about investing in games.

Sales are down this year and Microsoft is closing studios so if Sony really does have a new studio, I think they'll want people to know.

They also have their corporate strategy meeting next week. Could be a thing where they mention it there.

The only way I see this being the case is if it's like a PlayStation Visual Arts thing, like TLOU Remake started as.

But I think they'd make it an official studio when the game comes out.

I think they announce the studio once they announce the game. Right now they got a lot more games that have been in development for a lot longer to show.
