Well they were coming off the back of the Wii, but too blind to tell why the Wii was so popular and its the reason for wii u's failure.

I can't even count the number of times I got into an argument with a Nintendo fanboy over why the Wii succeeded in the first place and why the Wii U won't repeat it. Mind you, this was after it became pretty clear the Wii U wasn't another Wii. Even today you can find plenty of Nintendo fans who will swear up and down that the Wii succeeded purely as a great gaming platform. No other factors like novelty, price point, marketing, and catching the casual crowd at just the right time.
