Nice. yeah I don't know if I want to justify dropping $500 for a new chair.  The one I use now is getting worn out and not comfortable after a few hours

I was going to come in here, and say that sometimes learning more about something can potentially ruin your experience with it. I was going to complain about a movie using weird chess notation.

But then I learned some more about that thing, and found out that it's actually accurate and was an older chess notation that would have been used at the time. So it turns out that knowing a little, but not knowing enough about something can also ruin your experience.

We were staying at a hotel in a state over.
Bought a cheap Roku and was able to stream from my Plex Server.

It was awesome.

Pretty cool. Full bitrate wherever you go.

I really liked having a roku. Now I just use the built in tv apps.

It was real nice to just have access to my library in general.

Was thinking about how Netflix has made streaming a bit less convenient in that respect. Not a huge inconvenience, but with their account sharing lockdown, potentially making things more complicated.

With my main TV, I just use the built in TV apps. Works pretty well. The only real inconvenience is that the TV doesn't natively support TrueHD audio. Sometimes the server has to transcode because of that.

Otherwise I have an Apple TV and a Roku on the two non-smart TVs.

The Roku I got was just for being used at the hotel room. Don't really have a need for it.

I'm kind of amazed by how little some people understand food safety.

I just saw a Reddit post where someone apparently ate lasagna for several days that was left on the counter the entire time.

And this person is apparently almost 40.

I was in the Dominican republic and our chief just left the open cream cheese on the counter. I know some people do that with butter, but cream cheese?

He made great food though so maybe he knows better than the Philadelphia.

I saw the tesla car that has no steering wheel or peddles. Pretty cool.

The tires are way big.

for a cab maybe...

I am 20 years away from trusting this tech without a way to manually override for incompetence.

I assume at least at the start there will be a big button on the touch screen to abort.

Big thing I think about is that even though these cars are better drivers than the average human, are they better than me? A lot of tired and distracted drivers really mess with the stats.

i need more than just an abort button.

remember those cabs in san fransico where dozens got piled up and they couldn't figure out (automatcially) what to do?   What I mean is a will demand I can put a car into a human driving mode when I want to to deal with those situation where the car is too much of an inbasicle to manage the situation.

I'm probably fine turning on an automatic mode on a freeway in perfect weather in the mid-day hours on an uncrowded travel time.   an automatic driving mode for long car trips (like when i road tripped to yellowstone this summer) is probably awesome.

...but what what happened on my actual trip to yellowstone this summer where flash flooding closed the freeway while i was driving on it and the only sign of the road closure was a police officer waving at me from the side of the road.  hell no do i trust automated drivers to handle this situation.

...but what about my trip to downtown chicago traffic in the snow to do the holiday lighting festival where lots streets are closed or disobeying typical traffic laws (a one-way street reversed) all the while hundreds of people are jay walking??    hell no do i trust automated drivers to handle this situation.

...but what about when i go camping with the boy scouts or when i cut down my christmas tree each year or when i park at the renaissance festival and i'm required to drive though a field that is in fact not actually a road?  hell no do i trust automated drivers to handle this situation.

i need to be able to drive the car like a car as I do today or I will not buy it.  even if the situations are few and far between i'm not buying a car that will leave me stranded 3 times a year because the tech can't adapt to a complex and uncommon situation.

...in case i wasn't clear i'm specifically talking to your "has no steering wheel or peddles" part of your post.

All self driving cars have remote humans that assist if the car ever gets confused. The san fran company was waymo or cruise, here is a vid showing how that is supposed to be solved now.

Tesla uses different tech so their cars don't need internet and today can handle everything you've mentioned, but once their steering wheel free car is for sale they'll prob have a similar remote help system.

A big point of these cars is that they need to work with no one in them. Have it drop you off at work and then have it drive home so your family can use it too. If it ever gets stuck and needs a human in the car to help, that's a massive fail.

Edt: waymo uses hd maps, that's why they fail if something has changed.

I don't want remote help and the $5,000 a year subscription service i'll be required to pay for it.

Have you never been camping before?  The is no access to service out there.
