You're totally right.

i can't take this too seriously anyways when it starts out like:

"But I can say this: I promised myself I wouldn't start smiling or laughing when I tried it on. I promised I would be a professional journalist, sagely analysing what this meant for the world of virtual reality and its place in HTC's future strategy. I lasted approximately seven seconds before I started giggling like a tipsy schoolgirl."

i believe he is the bubble user, the tech enthusiast that wants it to succeed despite better judgement.  i'll await wednesday when all journalists start openly talking.  reviews will be far more mixed than this.

Every single one is positive, "Oh wait, that's the opposite of what you said would happen ;)"

"Unlike some of the more mobile-focused offerings, this one needs to be tethered to a PC (and a powerful one at that) to work, so you'll need to be careful when wandering around to not trip over."

"These wireless cameras are placed in two corners of a room (3m by 4m is suggested as adequate) and combined with the headset will create a virtual space to play around in."

"making this out of brushed metal would be really cool, and I get the feeling it's going to be quite expensive anyway, so adding a little more to make it look premium wouldn't hurt."

right,. no negatives or limitations to mass market uptake at all in this piece.  the whole world will buy 1,. 2 probably...

Exactly.

This is purely semantics kitler. We don't care if VR sucks, we just care that it doesn't suck the way you said it would ;)

i said expensive,.. check.

i said a lack of natively developed, compelling games,.. too early to say.

i said a lack of movement would make games feel awkward,.. so i guess what i should of mentioned is how much i don't want to lose a tooth from tripping on a cord or whatever when i blindly move around a room.  i also should have added that like kinect the general user base will be unable to meet the 10x13 foot room requirement just like when they made the same complaint wrt to kinect.  my entire game room isn't that big and i'm not disposing of my coffee table for VR.

xD

I'll have 1200 in mine and it will run it. Could get off cheaper if needed.

PS4 is able to power VR...
The minimum price of entry for a PC that can power this is probably $300-$400. Now, if you want the best possible graphics you probably want to go for $600 or more.

Smartphones can power VR just fine. Realistic graphics are not a big selling point of VR, like they are with PCs and consoles.

A $200 PC could run it.

Neither can a smart phone, they can still do VR.
