Soony: Next (major) PS4 Firmware Update is “Not Too Far Out"

A lot of people have been wondering when the next major PlayStation 4 firmware update will go live considering that it's been a while since we got the last one. While we haven't been given a release date, Sony's Fred Dutton has said that the upcoming firmware update isn't "too far out."

In response to multiple users asking about the update, he said:

I haven't got news for you today, but the next update is not too far out. We'll update you here asap.
Unfortunately, we have no concrete details about what the next update will bring, but if a leak from last December is to be believed, a friend notification feature might be added. Recently, a report also suggested that the PS4 may get custom backgrounds in the next update, but there's no word from Sony on that yet.

Yes, but we can't use what ever we want currently. Only what sony provides us.

i'm pretty happy with the current features.  what do you guys even want?

i want:
1. in the library i want ps+ games to have its own section separate from the games i own.
2. i want to be able to categorize my friends,.. i need folders for IRL friends,. vgchartz/vizioneck friends, and random adds.
3. mp3 support would be nice but not a high priority for me (native not that external HDD battleship) but i'll be honest i never did it on ps3.  i'm more excited for spotify actually cause that won't take up precious HDD space.
4. i want my profile to be more like a social media thing akin to facebook so that the "what's happening" isn't nothing but adds and trophy earns.  i should be able to post my videos/pics to sony's integrated social network instead of posting to facebook where everyone will hate me for posting.

honetly,. that's about it for me.  maybe i'm just unimaginative.

I want all the basic features the system should've had from the start, like MP3 support, streaming, CD playback just for that to be there and not be the embarrassing omissions they are now.

I also want more categorisation options.

Lastly, I need a way to share pics without having to upload to shaming facebook or twitter
