1.) Virtual Reality
-  Actually being put in the game, actually being immersed in the game is one of the most exciting prospects for me as a gamer.
2.) AI
-AI is even more exciting for me.  The prospect of playing any game with human like players and being able to go off script is an exciting one.  I'm not talking about just AI that makes decisions, but AI that could be talked to.  Imagine playing Skryim, and you walk up to a character and start a random conversation with them.  They don't just say the same 3 things over and over again.  Instead they learn, and they talk about new experiences.  Imagine playing Uncharted and yelling commands, or starting conversations with Elena, or Chloe.  Whether this will ever happen is anyone's guess.  It's something that a lot of people are woking on, but it is only theory on whether certain aspects of it will work.

3.)Photorealistic Graphics
-Now I know what you are thinking, you probably don't want all games to look like real life.  Not exactly my intention.  I don't necessarily want all games to be photorealistic, but rather I want that same level of detail.

tl;dr
I want immersion, I want to be involved in games, and I want games to be involved with me.

Legend

When did you first make this?

One big thing on my list would be real time sound. I find it CRAZY that we've got to a point where we render millions of polygons with highly complex shaders and global illumination for visuals yet for audio we just play back recordings and call it a day.

Instead I look forward to audio being generated in real time. Hit your sword against a rock? I want the audio engine to take your velicity and angle in to account and then produce a realistic "clang" instead of just playing "sword_to_rock.wav."

This also would be big with voices. Instead of having the NPC repeat himself every other line, he could have hundreds of lines and an infinite number of ways to say them depending on the circumstances. If he just came running up to you, he could sound out of breath. Or if he's hurt, he could say the line all slow and painful. I think towards the end of this gen we'll start seeing real time audio generation in games, and next gen we might have real time voices.

Almost nine months ago.  :P

I didn't realize it was that old.  :D

Oh yeah, that'd be a big thing too.

Legend

I thought I remembered it.

Anyway another one for me would be a simsxGTA game.

I dream for an open world game like GTA or Watch Dogs or Sleeping Dogs or Saints Row where every single person in the city is a unique and real feeling identity. In the game you're driving around town and you see someone on the street selling stolen cell phones for example. Instead of just having the option of killing them, you're free to do whatever you want. Kidnap the guy, take him back to your hideout, and then convince him to join your squad. Then that random nobody is elevated to a major part of the game. In future missions he's right along your side and in cut scenes he's showing off his unique personality.  Or say watch dogs style you save a woman's life when some gangbanger is threatening to kill her. Instead of just running off, she invites you to coffee as a thank you. Then you have a new mission automatically generated called "get coffee with Cynthia." After coffee you might never see her again, but regardless you'd feel for her character and appreciate the fact you saved her life.

Exactly the type of thing I have in mind.
I think AI + real time sound would be a huge boon to games like Watch Dogs, GTA, Skyrim, etc.

It's pretty annoying to see game AI do what they currently do.  Like playing Skyrim, you're fighting a character and they start yelling "Stop I surrender,"  what do you expect next?  That they put away their weapons, and do something peaceful.  But no, they start attacking more.  It reduces the AI from something clever to the same old simplistic thing we've had forever.

The hardware required though.  :o

This dream is my obsession.  :D
