historically speaking,...  was their any technology changes over that time period that SP could leverage for gameplay ideas?

I didn't play the first one so don't take my opinion for much but it looked very similar to GoT. 

I guess what I'm saying is it too early to start calling it a dlc expansion like ragnorok?
