Odd that this is about patent infringement. What could Palworld infringed on that a 100 other games with similar mechanics haven't?

fudge you Nintendo. You don't get to own a design or art style.

It's patent infringement so it literally can't be about design or art style. They are suing about something it does as a piece of software.

Just seems so obvious to not work out well for them. Palworld is one of many games in the genre and I doubt it's the only one to do what Nintendo is claiming ownership of.

Palworld and Nintendo will probably settle with no admission of guilt and all that yada yada, but it'd be great if Palworld fought back.

*there are design patents, but those aren't this type of patent

I know it's about patent infringement technically. But we all know why they are suing them, this is just the technicality they are using. I hope Nintendo loses and loses bad.

Also fudge you Nintendo you don't get to own a game design idea. The last thing we need in game development is companies owning design choices via patents. Next thing you'll know double jumping won't be allowed

Like you said I hope palworld fight back (is that the studios name?) they got a good deal of money from their sales and hopefully with the deal they made with Sony music they will make more and be able to fight this.

The devs are called pocket something.

Game design can be patented, it's just rare. For example up till a few years ago no one could have mini games during load screens because there was a patent.

Would be great if it stopped though. I love patents, they're a really really important thing to have, but they need a better system for rejection when the ideas are too broad and non interesting.

i'm glad they plan to fight back.  nintendo has been on a rampage of bullying small operations lately.   i hope it's possible to counter-sue nintendo here and that nintendo ends up having to pay them millions of dollars instead.

Report on Patent Infringement Lawsuit | 株式会社ポケットペア

Freaking crazy. Nintendo filed three trademarks after palword was revealed, and they expect 10 million yen in damages.

The dates in the palword url are the latest versions of these patents, but the first versions are from December 2021.

I'm no bird town lawyer, but is that shame enforceable?  "Hey Judge, Nintendo saw previews and went to make these patents before we could."

Laughably not, at least not in America. We use a "first to invent" rule and while Nintendo could argue they invented these game mechanics back in the 90s, patents must be filed within one year of an inventions first publication.

Pretty insulting that they even patented these things, and it sucks that the clueless patent offices approved them.

nintendo has gone too far.

there are "7 basic plots" which is way soo many movies have similarities to each other.   imagine nintendo going after the all the movie studios claiming any movie where "the protagonist sets out to defeat an antagonistic force" is a rip off of the nintendo movie and then suing them.

clearly there are similarities between palworld and pokemon.   but also there is more that is different about them than many of the other franchises that co-exist today like CoD and Battlefield.  nintendo can eat a dik.
