I would imagine the engine just doesn't work.  This is the second time they tried with an engine and just completely screwed up by not focusing on actually making a game (I think Crystal Tools and Luminous were designed to make cutscenes only and nothing else).

Square released a lot of little titles this past year.  I'm actually impressed; I'm reminded of their PSOne days.  Lots of mid-tier games/remakes/remasters and they released a lot of them.  Not sure how well those middle games sold, but I hope they sold enough.  We need more of those.
