Ok so here is an opinion of my.
As pretty much 99.9% know COD,FIFA,GTA are all huge. Obivously there are like 30 million hardcore gamers out there who love this stuff, but no.
This industry is being influenced and ruined by mainstream gamer's public perception
Lets look at this since they all think cod is " amazing and cool" they buy it in droves.
Since Activision is like," this baby can milk money," they can keep usuing the same formula for who knows how long with no gameplay changes as long as COD still sells 20 million every year. Same with Fifa and Madden they do the exact idea but add like a roster update and maybe like 1 little new thing(I understand adding women is special but they should have been added long time ago). Now notice how these games also sell around 15-20 million(well madden sells 5 million in US but you get the point) a year for doing practically nonthing. Mainstream Gamer's have this idea that they should have what their friends have even though they buy almost the exact same game every single year for $60. Like Activision EA probably doesn't see the needs for new gameplay elements since itll sell regardless.
Now in conclusion as to why mainstream is the bane of this use to be amazing industry. They push for no new innovation(even if they complain about it, they buy halo and super mario bros over and over. They pushed the idea of microtransactions and faster release scedules(since they only buy stuff during the holidays). They also act like babies to those that try to help this industry actually be great and not econically evil by complaining about games and hating on games that do innovate(or where I heard some people made fun of people who liked splatoon and bloodbourne sometimes).
That is why in this terribly written article I wrote myself that doesn't make sense,
mainstream gamers are the bane of this dang industry.

A rising tide lifts all boats. I personally don't care about the fifas and sports games, or really cod and other yearly games, but I love when they're successful. If people like it and want to support the industry, sweet!!!!

Your last few points are the ones that I can somewhat agree with. Microtransactions suck because they're like a disease, slowly being added to franchise after franchise. Gamers managed to turn Microsoft's DRM plans around, we should bloody well be able to turn microtransactions around too but nope. Too many people just accept them and complain about the people that dislike them. However I wouldn't say mainstream gamers are to blame. Even amongst core gamers there are many that blindly support microtransactions and pay to win features.

Kinda the same goes for the last one too. So many people hate on Splatoon and Order, but I feel that the hate is coming from mainstream and core gamers. It's a problem with the entire gaming community, not just the casuals.

Well, I will argue that it is holding back originality and creativity. Because so many mainstream gamers keep buying the next COD, FIFA, etc., it does not incentivize the large 3rd party publishers to mix things up. They will just continue to use the same formulas and attempt to dress them up in different clothes to give the illusion of difference.

The other problem is that not enough people are buying games of other genres or games that bring something new to the table. To me, there is not just one source of this problem. At times, the consumers don't care. Perhaps the developers aren't doing a good job or aren't willing to take risks. In my opinion, these led to the regression of the JRPG scene last gen. For instance, FFXIII wasn't as good as the FF's before it and Star Ocean 4 was a huge step down from SO3.

The "core" gamers are the mainstream gamers. The same gemers that will praise one game for one thing and shame on another game for the thing they just praised.  People complain about games more than they play.
