Well, it's not all that surprising that the PS4 is curbstomping the competition worldwide. The most surprising news over the last week was The Witcher III split in the UK. That was not expected at all considering the previous games were never on the PS3.

Yeah it was very surprising considering that and the xbox marketing as well. It just shows you how much bigger the RPG fan base on PS4 is.

Well, it was clear last gen that the JRPG fanbase was larger on the PS3 than on the 360. However, the last gen WRPGs such as Skyrim, Dragon Age Origins, and Dragon Age II sold better on the 360. The XB1 has effectively lost a substantial portion of the WRPG fanbase.

What I've seen first hand is that all most of these 360 players have switched to PS4 this time around, seeing as its supposed to be all about the games. Whereas the more casual 360 players have stuck with xbox. Not sure if its like that all around the UK but its a definite trend where I live.

OT: VGChartz has updated their hardware numbers to May 15! PS4 with 50.4% marketshare.

Take-Two: Bioshock franchise has sold 25m, Bioshock: Infinite 11m alone!
They're alive!

It's going to be interesting to see these sales splits from games of different genres down the line and how 3rd party publishers/developers will react to them. Japanese developers are already going Playstation-only because the XB1 does not have an adequate number of interested gamers to warrant an XB1 version. Just today, Kagari said that the XB1 version of Type-0 sold less than Microsoft's minimum print order and SE was probably not happy about that.

That is not to say all 3rd parties will ditch the XB1, but after what we saw with The Witcher III in the UK, I doubt CD Projeckt is willing to sign another deal with MS. With the sales gap widening and picture of the *insert genre* fanbase distribution clearing up, it is going to be extremely difficult to impossible for MS to gain exclusive marketing rights.

Considering that KH3 isn't going to come out anytime soon, I think it will be a terrific title for the Nintendo NX assuming that both come out in 2017. The series has been on Nintendo platforms: Chain of Memories (GBA), 358/2 Days (DS), and Dream Drop Distance (3DS). Both the Nintendo platforms and Kingdom Hearts also appeal to a younger audience, so I think they're a perfect match. This also gives the NX a huge 3rd party title.

Hence why I think the NX's success is extremely important. Not only will it provide competition, but it will also expand the Japanese game fanbase, something that the 360 and XB1 failed to do.

Yep, in the UK, the XBO outsold the PS4 in November, but PS4 outsold the XBO in December by a greater amount.

The US will be interesting because it looks like there will be a battle between Halo 5 vs. 3rd party marketing deals. What should be noted is that Sony doesn't have to necessarily win the holiday season. If the PS4 loses by, let's say, 200K for the holidays, then that will be a win for the PS4.
