QuoteStar Ocean 5 is in development for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, the latest issue of Famitsu reveals.

A release date is still unannounced, but the game is developed by tri-Ace and published by Square Enix.

From GAF:

QuoteThe magazine also has screenshots of a blonde swordsman and blue-haired witch participating in battle.

Battles are seamless and in real-time. Depending on the distance between you and the enemy, the way you attack changes, and pushing buttons consecutively will trigger combos.

In addition to traditional event scenes, there will also be "seamless events" such as those where enemies attack you. If the enemy apprehends your allies during these events, there will be branching outcomes.

Here's the game's staff:

Developer: tri-Ace
Character Designer: Akira "Akiman" Yasuda
Producer: Shuichi Kobayashi
Director: Hiroshi Ogawa
Lead Programmer: Yoshiharu Gotanda

Who on here would make comments like this? And apparently SCEJ is involved so it ain't gonna happen anyway.

I can't seem to find where SCEJ is said to be involved. Do you know?

Hopefully it'll be ready for the holidays to give PS4 an extra boost

Ah. Okay. Sounds like Sony is really trying to leverage its better position and cash flow to bring certain studios 'back into the fold' to an extent.

It is really good seeing SCEJ helping the Japanese studios... Booodborne, SFV, Deep Down, Star Ocean 5, etc.

It is good for all parts... Sony, Developer and gamers.

The last Star Ocean I played was on PS1.

I played the PSP remakes of 1 and 2 - and I played the PS2 one - Till the End of time - which is my most fav *_*! EPIC MUSIC AND ALL!

Was also my longest played RPG - clocking over 100 hours in one playthrough - the only other game to come close in 1 playthrough was Persona 1 Portable for PSP which I clocked 90 hours.

Star Ocean 3 is the worst game I have ever played in my life >:(

You guys should read up producer Shuichi Kobayashi's interview with GamesBeat on Gematsu. Here are some quotes I thought were extremely important:

Quote"When we were making Star Ocean 4, when it comes to the visual aspect, it was part of Square Enix's business strategy at that time. In those years, the company was really keen to expand their business in the west. There was a general idea that we should make sure our games had global appeal, not just Japanese appeal. That made things very complicated, really."

Quote"Story-wise and visual-wise, number five is going to have the feel of a direct sequel to Star Oceans one, two, and three. It'll be very different from Star Ocean 4."

Quote"We wanted to give the visual element which we believed would be appealing to western gamers, and it didn't really work for either western or Japanese fans."
