QuoteMicrosoft is said to still be seeking a buyer; but who's in the market?

Microsoft's Xbox division is in a much healthier state today than it was a year ago. It's had a tough time of it; forced to reinvent itself in an excruciating, public way as the original design philosophy and marketing message for the Xbox One transpired to be about as popular as breaking wind in a crowded lift, resulting in executive reshuffles and a tricky refocus of the variety that would ordinarily be carried out pre-launch and behind closed doors. Even now, Xbox One remains lumbered with the fossilised detritus of its abortive original vision; Kinect 2.0 has been shed, freeing up system resources and marking a clear departure for the console, but other legacy items like the expensive hardware required for HDMI input and TV processing are stuck right there in the system's hardware and cannot be extracted until the inevitable redesign of the box rolls around...

...Since the start of 2015, things have settled down to a more familiar pattern once more; PS4 consistently outsells Xbox One, even in the USA, generally racking up more than double the sales of its competitor in global terms. Xbox One sells better month-on-month than the Wii U, but that's cold comfort indeed given that Nintendo's console is widely seen as an outright commercial failure, and Nintendo has all but confirmed that it will receive an early bath, with a replacement in the form of Nintendo NX set to be announced in 2016. Microsoft isn't anywhere near that level of crisis, but nor are its sales in 2015 thus far outside the realms of comparison with Wii U - and their installed bases are nigh-on identical.

I read that on Neogaf, I may be willing to believe that MS is looking for a buyer for Xbox, but just as the Article says: Who would want it and would also be able to pay for it?

Samsung, Nintendo, Amazon, Apple, Valve, and Facebook are all possibilities. It greatly depends on what those companies are thinking of for the future, but they have the capital and potential interest.

Unfortunately we can't really put a number on the Xbox's net worth but I'm pretty sure that Valve and Nintendo don't have that kind of money, well Nintendo might just barely.

Samsung and Apple are probably looking at the profits the console makers are making with their divisions and are laughing their asses off.

Amazon and Facebook might be possibilities, even though Amazon has created it's own console-thingy already.

You can eliminate Nintendo off that list.

They more than likely cant afford it after all the loss that they are having with the WiiU production and development.

Even if they had said money (like VGChartz nintendo analysts have said 599 Billion US dollars harharhar) - they are probably too stupid to even consider purchasing a brand that is in direct competition with Sony let alone know how to maintain its IPs.

I can see Samsung (although the least), Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon trying to take a piece of pie from MS.

I cant see Sony, Nintendo or Valve going after this.

I think Nintendo has been making a profit as of late. Plus companies can take out loans and the equivalent. Lack of money hinders buying xbox. It doesn't make it impossible.

The "new" Nintendo with their mobile strategy might just be crazy enough to do it!

Samsung would be good because they are crazy with tech. They're the first VR on the market for example. Making a console that reinvents consoles could be right up their ally.

It's not about making profit, but about making more profit. Apple is also failing hard at finding "the next big thing." A reinvention of the home console could be it.

They might dangle it around and see what they might get for it, but to actually sell it they would need an offer to make it worth it.

I looked up on this a bit more and it sounds like MS is selling the Xbox television division to Warner Bros. So it may not be at all what it sounded like at first

I don't see it. Xbox isn't really worth all that much. But, ms will belive it's worth billions upon billions.  So what you'll have is bids from companies at what it maybe worth and ms wanting way more. So there for can't be sold because they won't sell it for what it's actually worth.

They believe it's worth billions because that's how much they lost on it ;o
